Photographer's Note

Saxifraga Scardica.
The species is indigenous to the mountains of C. & S. Balkan peninsula.
The plant is leafy with basic roses, calcified with sharp leaves. The flowey buds have a height of 4-12 cm and a bunch of 4-12 white or rosy flowers.
This species is common and widely spread to rocky areas from 400m on the slopes of the North side of mount Olympus up to highest peak, especially rich in the sub-alpine zone.
There is a significant variation of species that grows in low height and forms slack and leafy layers but plants exposed to alpine conditions, form thick, tough pillows with much little leaves.

Το είδος είναι ενδημικό στα όρη της Κ. & Ν. Βαλκανικής Χερσονήσου.Είναι πυκνοφυής με βασικούς ρόδακες απασβεστωμένων, τροπιδωτών οξέων φύλλων. Οι ανθοφόροι βλαστοί έχουν ύψος 4-12 εκ. και φέρουν ένα κορυμβοειδές κύμα από 4-12 λευκά ή ρόδινα άνθη.Το είδος αυτό είναι σύνηθες και ευρέως διαδεδομένο σε πετρώδεις θέσεις από τα 400 μ. στις χαράδρες της Β. πλευράς του Ολύμπου μέχρι την ψηλότερη κορυφή, ιδιαίτερα άφθονο στη υποαλπική ζώνη.Υπάρχει σημαντική παραλλαγή οικοτύπου που φύεται σε χαμηλά υψόμετρα και σχηματίζει χαλαρά , πυκνοφυή στρώματα, ενώ φυτά εκτεθειμένων αλπικών βιοτόπων σχηματίζουν πυκνά, σκληρά προσκεφάλια με πολύ πιο μικρά φύλλα.Καλή χρονιά, απανταχού της γης πατριώτες!

I like always of wild flowers, also the bees and insects around the flowers are very nice for taking and nice macro.

Happy New Year to you & family. Pretty alpine flowers surviving with the protection of rock enclosure. I have some shots of alpine flowers & I have no idea what they are called. I once uploaded one of them but it was immediately deleted by TE. I think I know why now. It was because I didn't upload together with notes ... although I was in the process of writing one.
