*Jeffrey "Jeff" Wall, OC, RSA (born September 29, 1946) is a Canadian artist best known for his large-scale back-lit cibachrome photographs and art history writing. Wall has been a key figure in Vancouver's art scene since the early-1970s. Early in his career, he helped define the Vancouver School and he has published essays on the work of his colleagues and fellow Vancouverites Rodney Graham, Ken Lum and Ian Wallace. His photographic tableaux often take Vancouver's mixture of natural beauty, urban decay and postmodern and industrial featurelessness as their backdrop.

*Aesthetics (also spelled æsthetics) is a branch of philosophy dealing with the nature of beauty, art, and taste, with the creation and appreciation of beauty. It is more scientifically defined as the study of sensory or sensori-emotional values, sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste. More broadly, scholars in the field define aesthetics as "critical reflection on art, culture and nature.
The word aesthetic is derived from the Greek αἰσθητικός (aisthetikos, meaning "esthetic, sensitive, sentient"), which in turn was derived from αἰσθάνομαι (aisthanomai, meaning "I perceive, feel, sense"). The term "aesthetics" was appropriated and coined with new meaning in the German form Æsthetik (modern spelling Ästhetik) by Alexander Baumgarten in 1735....etc..W..

Πολύ κυκλοθυμική εικόνας ήσυχο καταφύγιο σε μια μικρή πόλη. Με βάρκες πλατφόρμες ανάπαυσης. Άριστη διαχείριση των αποχρώσεων του γκρι. Εξαιρετική σύνθεση και τέλεια ευκρίνεια της εικόνας.

A beautiful, extremely calming composition and the overall serenity of the image which certainly stands out from similar stylised images. An appropriate title as well. A case where for me colour detracts rather than add and everything concentrates on the main interest - centre of frame and the photogenic background that works well to contrast the image. In some ways quite emotive with a sense of isolation and loneliness jumps out at me. Black & white was used to emphasize the mood, atmosphere and It also gives an old feel. This image really captures the sense of the title. Well done. TFS.

μια μαγευτική φωτογραφία με υπέροχη τολμηρή σύνθεση και θαυμάσιο φωτισμό. Μια εικόνα που ικανοποιεί την αισθητική και κεντρίζει τη σκέψη. Εκτός από το θέμα της θάλασσας και των πλοίων, αυτό που μου αρέσει πάρα πολύ είναι ο τρόπος που χειρίστηκες το φως και τους τόνους. Αλλού υπάρχει μια εκπληκτικά αρμονική μετάβαση σε σκουρότερους ή φωτεινότερους τόνους και αλλού εντυπωσιακές αντιθέσεις. Όλα έχουν τη θέση τους και συνθετικά έχουν εντυπωσιακό αποτέλεσμα. Συγχαρητήρια και ευχαριστώ!

I'll have to check out this man Jeff Wall, perhaps it will inspire me to take some more Vancouver landscape shots.
To be honest, i've never really thought about turning sea scape into black and white....but i guess it does have its merrits doesn't it, looks lovely with the varying tones and shades.
the peaceful atmosphere really comes through.
