Photographer's Note

Didymoteicho is a Greek city located in the region of Evros, about 960 kms northern of Athens. It used to be an important cultural centre during the Byzantine empire and the centuries that followed. Its name actually means "twin walls", and probably it refers to the two castles that stood at the two edges of the city. Nowadays only one of them stands still (it can be seen at the background). As the region is located only a handful of kms away from the Greek-turkish frontier, the place is full of military camps, that contribute heavily to the local economy. I, personally, had the chance to serve during my military service at Didymoteicho, and I believe till this day that it was one of the best periods of my life...
