Livadia nights, a photo from Viotia, Central Greece

Photographer's Note

After my last post (See here ), one more photo from the Krya Springs, a beautiful place in the heart of Livadia town (capital of Viotia prefecture), about an hour and a half from Athens. Here you can see Erkyna river that runs through town, the stone building of the old watermill, and in the background, a small part of the "Catalan" castle's walls. The place is beautiful with lots of small waterfalls and 4-5 fantastic old stone bridges.

The place is connected with many myths since the ancient years, about a young lady called Erkyna, friend of Persefoni, daughter of Goddess Demetra, about the Oracle of Trofonios Zeus, one of the most important in ancient years, the springs of forgetfulness and rememberance etc. About all these myths, and also about the Catalan castle, we 'll have the chance to talk in some future posts!

Hercules,
This is a great blue hour shot. The long exposure worked well for you here providing nice DOF and sharpness while giving the moving water a nice smooth look. Your light management is great allowing us to see nice details throughout the shot with out overexposing the lighted areas. Your composition is fine using the water and rail to lead the eye into the scene.

Hi,
the colors in this picture are indescribable. The rich blue of the sky stands out in particular. The composition is fantastic and it was a great decision to use such a long shutterspeed, particularly because of the silky waterfall.

Whoa!

Now that is a virtual kaleidoscope of color. Normally I'd think it was a mistake to allow the frothy water of a fall to leave the frame as you have but there is so much going on in the top of the frame that there is literally no way the eye can leave. Very pretty.

It's unique, but there's a piece of each thing I really like in (the most of*) your photos: the blue hour, the silky water blurred by the long exposure, the palette of colours and the beautiful Greek architecture.

Una muy buena forma de empezar el año (por esto y por más motivos claro).
La foto tiene una gran belleza por varios motivos: una composición muy acertada, el momento y su luz (ese momento de hora azul es fantástico) y el lugar.
Sin duda una foto que atrapa al ojo.
