The founder of the Egyptian dynasty, Muhammad Alis (Turkey Mehmet Ali Pasha) was born in Kavala in 1769.Itan son of Albanian origin and rural constable dervenaga''''Ibrahim Ibrahim of the infamous father of the Greek Revolution. He distinguished himself in war against Napoleon Bonaparte (1798-99) in Egypt. In 1805 won, with the approval of the Sultan Selim III, the office of regent (Valis), Egypt with the rank of Pasha.
