Waiting for the Sun to Set, a photo from Kyklades, South Aegean

Photographer's Note

There were blue domes in almost every village in Santorini; but you have to find the right spot to be, to catch the sun setting in front of the dome and church bells. I found my spot at the village of Firostefani, which lies between Fira and Imerovigli: sunset views of the St Spirou Church and Blue Dome.

that's a great place to wait for the sunset and you had time to find the right position to record it and you sur did. Very good balance between the elements and the warm and cols colors. Great light handling.\

You certainly found an ideal place to capture the sunset.
The long shadow of the setting sun illuminates well the sea behind the bell tower so we can see the cross and the bells as nice silhouettes on a fiery background.
Also both small islands are placed well on the picture.
Very Greek and very romantic!

Stunning shot, the combination of the blue dome and the deep golden rays of sun is really wonderful, and you chose such a perfect composition by placing the bells of the campanile so perfectly into the triangle of light reflected on the water. Every element of this image works perfectly. Really nicely done, thanks for sharing.

My compliments on your very fine light management here May. One of my pet hates is burnt out sunset shots where the details and colours are lost to overexposure. Here you have got things nicely balanced and the warm golden light from the sun has turned the sea into a shimmering golden expanse; how beautiful. A well considered composition too with the arch and bells neatly placed over the most brilliant area of gold and the blue dome touched by the sun. This is the type of shot that encourages us to visit such places... it looks so perfect!

Hello May,

Love the warm cold color contrast here between the golden sea and the blue fg domes of the church. I caught the sunset from Oia but you're right, the similar church there faces away from the sun.
