Photographer's Note

The village is mainly known for its cave and in this Byzantine church of Panagia Agiogalousena.
In this cool place the visitors can enjoy under the created shadows a chilly beer and to hear thousands cicadas,especially during the hot Summer days.

Holy Chios Milk

The Holy Milk (or Mount Milk and Agio Galas in the local dialect) is a small village northwestern Chios, a road distance of 62.5 km from the city of Chios. Today belongs to the homonymous district of Chios Municipality (municipal Amani unity, community Holy Milk). The weighted average altitude of the village is 240 meters above sea level. The `Holy Milk is the second westernmost village on the island, after Melanios, situated on the western slopes of Amani mountain. Nearest inhabited settlements are Melanios villages (to the southwest) and Nenitouria (east-voreioantatolika), at distances of a few kilometers. However, 1.4 km southeast of Agio Galas is a small village of Agios Ioannis (St. John), abandoned since the 1970s, but on delivery settlement flourishing past.

The inhabitants of Saint Milk called Agiogalousoi / Agiogalousena the local dialect.

The village is mainly known for its cave and in this Byzantine church of Panagia Agiogalousena. Moreover, the name of all this comes from spilaiogala that dripped from the stalactites of the cave, and according to tradition has healing-miracle properties (holy water).
