Santorini

Santorini (Greek: Σαντορίνη,officially Thira (Greek: Θήρα,is an island located in the southern Aegean Sea, about 200 km (120 mi) southeast from Greece's mainland. It is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera. It forms the southernmost member of the Cyclades group of islands, with an area of approximately 73 km2 (28 sq mi) and a 2001 census population of 13,670. The municipality of Santorini comprises the inhabited islands of Santorini and Therasia and the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni, Aspronisi, and Christiana. The total land area is 90.623 km2 (34.990 sq mi). Santorini is part of the Santorini peripheral unit.

Hello Danos,
The many flower pots give this view its special character. There is a fine connection between the white details of the nearest building and the white buildings in distant Oia. The contrast between the bright villages and the dark sea is stunning.

Hello Danos,

Your picture gives excellent quiet moment with the white balcony.
But the blue colour of the sea makes your picture wonderful summery (2012).
Sharpness and clarity are excellent done.

What a wonderful view of the deep blue sea. The white walls are seen beautifully in the foreground, I really like the colour contrast. The flower pots scattered across the foreground make a nice repetitive element.

As told you on other photo, I saw the caldera from the air, Danos, and indeed it looks awesome.
This is a fine POV show the curve of the once-upon-a-time a volcano sunk to the sea, blue sea that get superior contrast from the grey rocks and white houses.
Clear sight of the distant village, like a cream on a cake...

ένα πανέμορφο φυσικό και αρχιτεκτονικό σκηνικό, μου αρέσει πάρα πολύ η λιτότητα της σύνθεσής σου, που αφήνει τα λιγοστά στοιχεία, το χώρο και τα χρώματα να μας συναρπάσουν με τη χάρη και την υποβλητικότητά τους. Μου αρέσει πολύ ο τρόπος που ξεχωρίζει το λευκό, ο "διάλογος" ανάμεσα στους δυο οικισμούς πάνω απ' το Αιγαίο, η γραμμή του ορίζοντα τόσο μακριά από το νησί. Συγχαρητήρια και ευχαριστώ!

Thats a different type of image in which you have shown the pots on the roof and the far away sea in the background. I like the white brightness and the dark blue water.

Hello Danos,

Most pictures are from Oia, only rare are views from Fira and it is attractive too. Stunning contrasts on this picture - deep blue sky and sea, white walls with some flower pots. Splendid view of the white city on the high black cliffs.

Hello Danos,

One of my favourite spots in Greece. I cannot believe that one tourist I met complained that Santorini was nothing special and had terrible beaches. You do not go there for beaches. You do go for views like this. Tfs!

Hi Danos,
this is so beautiful. Santorini is still on my wish list of places to visit. Recently however in Croatia I got quite tired with so many stairs -and carrying my daughter so I think I will wait with this destination until my daughter gets older.

Very attractive foreground with plenty of white color and decorated with the flower pots. The view is spectacular and it allows me also to imagine the setting of Oia.
