The Sand Dunes In Gomati

On the north part of the island, on the hillsides of Katalakkos village lies an area of uncommon beauty. Pachies Ammoudies, or “Paxies Amdes” as referred to by the locals, are dunes of fine sand, which alongside the scattered brushwoods recall the charm of the desert at the north of the Aegean Sea. Expanding over an area of 17.5 acres, they create a magnificent landscape that is unique in Greece.

Their distinguishing feature is that they are found in the inland and are not part of the coastal dunes, which are formed through the sand movement from local winds, and this phenomenon is rare to occur in islands.

Its quite surprising to see dunes on an island in the Aegean, Danos - but truly we get to know new things every day.
The soil color however is different from a desert-beach tones.
Nice showing the motion of these three friends stride upon.

Bonjour Danos,

On sent qu'il n'y a pas trop de danger pour ce trio sur la dune. Ils ont plutôt l'air de bien s'amuser. J'aime le cadre serré et les très jolies couleurs.

αυτές τις μέρες είδα κάποια αναφορά σ' αυτό το ασυνήθιστο τοπίο της Λήμνου και θυμήθηκα ότι για πρώτη φορά είχα πληροφορηθεί την ύπαρξή του από μια παλαιότερη δημοσιευσή σου. Μου αρέσει πολύ η σύνθεσή σου, που έχει απομονώσει ένα μέρος με χαρακτηριστικό χρώμα και υφή ενώ τρεις άνθρωποι το διασχίζουν. Φαίνεται φιλική έρημος αφού οι περιπατητές φορούν σαγιονάρες και ο ένας δεν έχει ούτε καπέλο:) Συγχαρητήρια και ευχαριστώ!

All that sand suggest and endless desert, but the three seemed rather relaxed.
