Photographer's Note

Here's the larger TE Beta Version, clearer/sharper.
Olympic Park.

Shooting scenes like this one really gets my creative mind working overtime, and i love it. The reason why I went black and white with this one is to put the emphasis on the shadows on the ground. In colour, the shadows are almost invisible.

Before arriving in Athens, i planned on visiting the abandoned Olympic Park. I'm so glad I did. Such a sad state of affairs when you hold the Olympic Games in the summer of 2004, and within only a few years the site is left abandoned and left to rust and rot in the hot sun.

This portion you see here is a long long long snake like tunnel that meanders outside on the Olympic Grounds. Its quite beautiful, especially in its white colour, and the blue sky. Just right out front of the main buildings and sporting complex. I read that this was the area where they would have had large screens set up, viewing platforms, viewing parties, people would just hang outside if they didn't have tickets and enjoy the atmosphere.

If you go there today, the buildings are falling apart, its mostly gated and boarded up. I do believe the outdoor swimming pool is still in use, but thats it, nothing else.

For this photo, i really wanted to get a person inside the tunnel, but trust me....NOBODY was there!
There were the odd sporadic jogger passing by, and I was hoping they'd jog right into the tunnel but people seemed to want to avoid it. I waited and waited until I couldn't wait anymore. Oh well, what can you do right?
