Mesologgi Lagoon

The Mesologgi Lagoon (Greek: Λιμνοθάλασσα Μεσολογγίου,is a shallow lagoon located in the south of Aetolia-Acarnania, Western Greece. It is connected to the Gulf of Patras, a bay of the Ionian Sea. Its length is approximately 15 to 20 km along with its width, its shape resembles a triangle.

The deepest depth is 5 to 6 m, other than the largest part in which its depths does not pass over half a metre and it contains seaweeds. Several islands surround the lagoon Near to the coasts, the depth is only 10 cm and it is a swampy area that a part of it is land. It features fishes. Strabo called the lake Kynia.

Near the lagoon is the Aitoliko Lagoon to the north. Together they form the Missolonghi–Aitoliko Lagoons complex.

The lagoon was partly drained in the 20th century especially in the western portion in which a part of the land extended southward with farmlands and dikes. The island of Aitoliko or sometimes the peninsula extended by 15 km and 200 m making it the longest extension, the eastern half became a canal and it resembles as a dike.

We both posted same-subject pictures, birds in a nature-reserve.
Wonderful red plants in teh lagoon, and as judging the birds legs in the water, are in shallow part in the lagoon.
Reflection of the white Egrets wonderfully rrendered.

always fun to have a TE anniversary :)
I like how we can see some birds up in the top portion as well, but my favorite part are the horizontal red lines running across the frame. lovely light, the blues and reds compliment each other so well. cheers

Hi Danos,
I missed this anniversary photo 2 wks ago, but it's not too late to wish you a happy anniversary ! We did our debuts on TE 3 1/2 months apart, but of course you were a lot busier than me, and also I had to be absent for 3 yrs.
Never mind, we are still here, which means we find a lot of pleasure with the site, sharing pictures of our own country and countries abroad... May you continue to delight us for a long time with your beautiful photos !
This is a wonderful picture of the lagoon with the autumn colours of the vegetation, and the elegant Little Egrets reflecting in the water and looking for their food.
