At dawn, a photo from Hania, Crete

Photographer's Note

This is the lighthouse at the entrance of the Old Harbor in Hania (Chania) town, Crete. The harbor is not used anymore, you won't find a single boat in it nowdays, but it's sourounded by interesting old buildings, cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and dozens of small shops. It's of course the most popular part of the town, especially with tourists.
I was in Chania last week with my senior students, on a schooltrip. Our ship arrived very early in the morning (as it usually happens) and this was our first impression of Crete, after of course the newer port we actually landed at, just outside the town.

Post-processing: Cropped, added some brightness, contrast and intensity and of course sharpened after resizing

I like the simplicity. But i think you can boost the color tone using software like photoshop which will make it looks more colorful. Anyway, it's still a great shot and I like it!

Nice photo of the Harbor entrance.
Red shadows in the sky and the clouds make the picture special.

Γειά σου Ιωάννα

Πολλή ωραία φωτογραφία, με καταπληκτική ατμόσφαιρα. Το κάδρο σου είναι πολύ καλό και καλοζυγισμένο.

Τώρα τεχνικά: ευτυχώς ο θόρυβος κρατήθηκε σε minimum επίπεδα, κάτι δύσκολο σε τέτοιες λήψεις με χαμηλό φωτισμό. Επίσης, αν προσέξεις, στις άκρες κάνει ελαφρύ "βαρελοποίηση", "σηκώνοντας" τις άκρες προς τα πάνω. Αλλά στην προκειμένη περίπτωση σε την χαλάει καθόλου σχεδόν.

Are you really new to photography? This is great. Contrasts between foreground/background is perfect. Also, the splash of colour in the clouds really adds a nice touch. Cheers!

Γειά σου Ιωάννα.
Παρα πολύ καλή λήψη. Έκανες πολύ ενδιαφέρον ένα απλό και πολυφωτογραφημένο θέμα.
Το κάντρο σου είναι πάρα πολύ καλό. Τηρεί όλες τις τεχνικές προυποθέσεις.Πολύ καλή εκφώτιση, πολυ καλή τοποθέτηση των όγκων σου μέσα στο κάντρο, τέλεια η αναλογία ουρανού γής.
Αισθητικά, πέτυχες μια πολύ ωραία και ατμόσφαιρική φωτογραφία που αφήνει μια όμορφη...γεύση.
Σου εύχομαι καλή συνέχεια και καλο Πάσχα!

Hi Ioanna,

A great composition here, and superb gradation of tones and soft colours. Lovely sharp silhouette.

You seized the opportunity of having to be up and about with your camera at dawn - the best time of day to take pictures.

An excellent complement to your later shot of the same lighthouse.
