Photographer's Note

Leros Island. On the east side of the island on the shore of Aghia Marina Bay is this War Cemetery to those who died fighting for the island on the 12th to 16th November 1943.It lies about a mile from Leros town and soldiers were moved from other burial sites around the island where they had died when this cemetery was created. There are 183 graves but 3 sailors and 55 soldiers are not identified due to the destruction of records by German forces.
The inscription on the stone says much of the high regard the Greek people hold these allied forces who gave their lives.
