Photographer's Note

Since 1996 more than a thousand hikers collect on a Saturday of every October in Cserépfalu (click on the map on the left side) to take part on the Less Nándor Memorial Tour dedicated to a talented scientist who first described in every detail the vegetation of the Southern Bükk Mountain, carried out important research in East Asia (by the way, he was the author of the guide of Yulong San Mountain published by Lonely Planet) and Africa, walked more than 22000 km during his research work - and died at the age of 30 due to a disease caught in Africa.
Bükk is a karstic mountain in Northern Hungary, its highest peak is Istállóskő (959 m) and its name relates to the beech tree being the dominant species there - though this is an accidental correspondence since the origin of the word is the old Hungarian word "bikk"=mount with steep side. (Thanks to Hormon_Manyer.)
The mounts cherish the memory of prehistoric men of Neanderthal race whose bones were found here in one of the caves - and sure, the memory of young dr. Less.

Clementi, konok, ocskaymarci, atus, John_F_Kennedy, Buin, Hormon_Manyer, gondox ha puntuado esta nota como útil.
