Photographer's Note
The marvellous picture by Kasia from yesterday has inspired me to show this one. You can see here the charming small church and the modest Iceland Prime Minister residence here.
This area is of great significance and Unesco Heritage place.
The geological traits are fascinating here.
Iceland is divided by the Mid-Atlantic Rift; some parts of it, such as the Westfjords and Reyjavík, are on the North American tectonic plate, while others, such as Vatnajökull glacier and the East Fjords, are on the Eurasian plate. Iceland is the only place in the world where this rift is above sea-level, and nowhere can you see the edges of both plates as clearly as in Þingvellir.
As you enter the park from Reykjavík, you descend a steep cliff into a valley. Looking upon the face of this cliff is to literally look at the edge of North America. If you drive through the park, you will ascend on the other side adjacent to another wall; this is Eurasia. The valley in between, in which Þingvellir is contained, is the rift valley.
The tectonic plates move apart at approximately 2.5 centimetres a year and have done for millenniums.
I hope you will like it. Two similar views will follow in Workshops.
In case you wonder what is it this white thing, it is SNOW. :).
Better see in a large format.

Hello Malgo,
These photos are all good complements to Kasia's picture. We see this legendary area in daylight and we get an explanation of its geological importance. This area was also the founding place of the Alþingi, the world's oldest still functioning parliament, started here in 930. So this is a fascinating place for several reasons, and the photos with different views from different angles are also fascinating.
Best wishes,
Gert

Hello Malgo,
Such a beautiful view of the vast Icelandic landscape in winter. The bright sunshine and the snowy area look great. Very well captured in a good, wide composition.

Hello Malgo, three impressive pictures. I was unaware of the Mid-Atlantic Rift.
Your pictures illustrate this geological phenomenon perfectly. In ne of the workshop pictures I spy a bridge and a figure, that really gives us a good idea of the scale.
And your notes are very informative.
Lovely sharp shots.
Thanks for sharing, kind regards, Jean.

Hi Malgo,
The scenery is impressive. The point of view is showing the details of the mountains of the house and of the church. The light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Malgo,
Splendid winter sceneries! But too cold for me :)
Amazing to find a church, even a small one, in such a deserted region.
The light on all pictures is very beautiful.
Best regards, Paul

in california and ethiopia there are something similar in terms of rift.
the main post show us the wide landscape and the small house and church almost lost in the snow. nice the geological views in the WS.
here we have had few rain (usually it is more rainy in december) but the heat is the same. the city is filled with tourists, covid love that.fire works were cancelled..
happy 2021
take care

Hello Malgo,
This is an interesting trio of photos, and your note was also very informative, Iceland is a very unique place. That home does seem very modest for a Prime Minister, but it's probably very comfortable inside. It's just in such an isolated spot. The Prime Minister doesn't have to travel far to go to church, though. :-) Take care!

Ciao Malgo,i remember well this corner of Iceland. Maybe not the most spectacular but surely important because the borders of tectonic plaque,i walk inside the plaque and it was a great sensation. It's nice to see the winter scenery covered by snow and not full green when i was there,3 great shots,i like it! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Hi Malgo,
It looks like early morning with those long shadows. But at this latitude it could be the middle of the day. A bleak but beautiful landscape with the sun picking out all the details. The rounded mountains in the background are great outpourings of lava erupted as the plates move apart. The workshop photos are excellent too.

Hello malgo,
Bright day was a perfect setting for this landscape scenery.
Good view across the plaines, cold - but clear and distinct outcome.
Have a nice new week,
Ike

Ostatnie biale Boze Narodzenie mielismy w Powiecie Radomskim w 2014!
