Photographer's Note
Traveling in Iceland in winter may seem an extreme experience but in fact, there are many tourists enjoying the wintery landscape and the frozen waterfalls. Of course, going around is very different than in the summer months. First of all, the days are short in winter. We went before sunrise (at 10 a.m.) and returned in darkness (after 17 p.m.). Some roads were impassable because of snow of ice. Of course, it was windy and cold, especially near the huge masses of ice in frozen waterfall, the real feel was quite terrible. The result was the short life of batteries. I can't take photos in gloves so my fingers were very cold all the time. But I was rewarded with fantastic views.
I visited many places - some very popular among the tourists, other ones never shown on TE.
Here the view from Dyrholaey, near the famous black beach of Vik. In summer, you can go up by car. In winter, the road is closed and one must climb the high cliffs on foot.
You can compare the winter view with the view of Craig's picture here
For me, the contrast of the black sand with the white snow is in winter more impressive.
Wikipedia: Dyrhólaey is a small promontory located on the south coast of Iceland, not far from the village Vík. The peninsula has an elevation of 37 m, and the Dyrhólaey lighthouse sits at the top of the formation facing the sea.
The view from Dyrhólaey is broad: To the north is to be seen the big glacier Mýrdalsjökull. To the east, the black lava columns of the Reynisdrangar come out of the sea, and to the west the whole coastline in the direction of Selfoss is visible - depending on weather conditions. In front of the peninsula, there is a gigantic black arch of lava standing in the sea.

Hello Emka
But the golden and bronze mixture of colors created a wonderful image also. I like it. Very brave to visit in the winter.

Hello Malgo,
A fantastic view of this beach at winter! The colours and textures look truly amazing, especially in this bright sidelight, which also added a fine warm/cold colour contrast.

Hi Malgo,
Beautiful landscape, nice depth result, perfect light well captured, pity for the wire in the Fg, but it was like that ! Interesting difference with the contrast of the photo of Craig in summer, tfs.

Hello Malgo,
A superb long perspective along this curious black beach edged with snow. I like the division of the composition into its constituent parts. Also, the winter lights and colours. Lots of nice textural detail.

Hello Emka,
It looks cold, and obviously it was, but also quite beautiful in this sharp light from a low sun. It doesn't look at all like my dream destination in winter, but we all have our peculiar preferences. (I was in Baghdad in mid July, but I won't do that again.) Your fingers were still warm enough to set the camera right. Sharpness and exposure are superb.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hello Malgo,
If you look at these beautiful tranquil winter landscapes it is very worthwhile to brave the cold to take pictures here. And even more if the snow clouds have given way to such a stark blue sky.
Excellent work
Have a nice day. Groet Rob

Hi Malgo
yes, I remember this place well, in fact i knew EXACTLY where you took this photo from even when viewing the small thumbnail photo :) thanks for adding my photo as your link :)
was the wind strong up here for you? it was for me, I could barely even stand up straight, it was blowing my backwards. So much fun to see the Black Beach almost frozen, wonderful views, and I like that the horizon line is so straight :) Great pic. PS - As you know Joanne and I are engaged, but the new announcement is that she is pregnant! She is due Aug 20th. I will be a daddy for the first time!!!! Exciting times in our future :) Cheers

Hello Malgo.
Two very different parts in this photo with a great perspective, on the one hand the sea and the long beach, while then we see wastelands and some mountains completely covered with snow.
Good sharpness, lighting and, color in this beautiful image.
Well done. I like it.
You have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Malgo,
You're right that the contrast between the snow and the black sandy beach is very big.
I really like the brightness of this picture.
Some people I know believe traveling in third world countries is difficult. I think traveling in Iceland in winter is something very difficult ...
There are not only the low temperatures, but as you yourself indicate the extremely short days. I think the days in the winter in Belgium are already far too short :)
Best regards, Paul

Ciao Malgo
la spiaggia è in versione molto invernale, la mia spiaggia non si presenta così...
Due belle foto, ci stai mostrando l'Islanda in un modo completamente nuovo.

Hi Malgo
Missed this one. I like the superb sharpness and wide angled, panoramic crop. Good view of the sea at left meeting this volcanic island in the mid Atlantic. Tfs!

Hello Malgo,
I guess I should get out and about in the winter more often. In cold weather, I usually sit at home and post-process photos I have taken during warmer times. You are putting me to shame with such pretty scenery!
Regards,
MT
