Photographer's Note
The wide white sandy beach with the palms, blue sky and turquoise sea is for many people a paradise. Luciano and Mariusz love such places for holidays. It is nice to relax a bit, especially after many days of sightseeing, to swim in warm water, but after a few hours is just boring.
Djúpalónssandur or the Black Lava Pearl Beach is a beautiful place to visit, like so many other sites on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. It is like stepping into a lava wonderland.
It is just a short drive from the main road and you can leave your car in the parking lot just above Djúpalónssandur. A short walk down Nautastígur path - the Path of the Bull - will take you through a lava field with huge lava formations. There is a peculiar rock here with a hole in it, called Gatklettur. Through the hole, one can see Snæfellsjökull glacier. (From Guide to Iceland)
In the Black Beach instead of sand there are small round shiny black pebbles. I took a handful of them with me and now I like to take them in my hand and to play with them, just thinking about the marvelous places I have been to Iceland. For me, this beach was much more beautiful and interesting than exotic beaches.
Bigger beta picture
The picture with
some people in red is nice too but I liked more the big waves in the main upload.
The photographer came too near the shore. See
here. There are warnings that sudden wave can be dangerous.

Hello Malgo,
A great note and I agree that such a wild beach such as this is far better than exotic beaches. You handled the black and white elements very well in this beautiful image.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello Malgo,
The WS photos both have some small added features, but this beach is so special and spectacular that it doesn't need any help of people. Unless there are several similar black beaches on Iceland I have seen this one in at least one movie from the Viking ages. The many details seen in the white foam and among the black pebbles prove what a good exposure this is.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Malgo
J'aime beaucoup le contraste très frappant entre le noir du sable volcanique de la plage et le blanc de la crête de la vague qui plonge vers son dernier repos.
Amicalement

Hello Malgo,
I saw one of Iceland's black volcanic beaches on TV last week. It looks so wonderful and you captured here in a great composition, which is well-balanced with the sea. The warm sunlight was very pleasant as well.

Très particulier cette plage noir, cela donne bien avec le blanc des vagues !

Hi Malgo,
It is interesting to think about pure white coral sand of tropical islands and compare that vision with almost complete negative view of this lava beach. One could also imagine some green bushes on the place of those snowy patches. Surely a wonderful place to visit. But being in Finland I definitely wait for spring instead.

Magnificent contrast achieved with the white wave hitting the black-lava shore's, Malgo.
The tiny stones shine under the mild light.
Have a nice new day,
Ike

Vos images sont très belles et j'ai beaucoup aimé la note d'accompagnement.

Hello Malgo,
They have black sand beaches in Santorini too and I remember it was twice as hot as white sand to walk on. No danger of that here though! It looks bitterly cold. Tfs!

Hi Malgo,
You have captured well the power of the sea. The point of view is showing the details of the sea and of the beach. the light is enhancing the beauty of the colours. Iceland is on mys list of countries to visit, have a nice day.

Hello Malgo,
I have a preference for your main picture because thanks to the foam of the wave it has the strongest black & white contrast.
Moreover, I always find deserted beaches particularly attractive.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Malgo
i have to agree with you 100%, spending time on the beach is boring after a few minutes, I do not like it :) but that is just me :) Isn't this beach beautiful? I think so. lovely shot with the white cresting waves against the volcanic ash, the blues, blacks, whites...splendid. sweet shot and exposure contrasts. cheers

Hello Malgo,
These black beaches are spectacular. I have seen one in Oregon, too. But they did not let us take any stones or pebbles from that beach, were you able to keep a souvenir?

MT
