Day 2 - Reykjavik - Vik

At the end of our first full day in Iceland, we arrived in Vik, a small village on south coast of Iceland. After lunch we made photos in Dyrhólaey peninsula, a few kilometres from the village. Dyrhólaey is a former volcanic island. It is the southern point of "continental" Iceland. It is a natural reserve and a paradise for birds, in particular Atlantic Puffins.

Atlantic Puffin, nicknamed "sea parrot" is a seabird that can be found in North Atlantic. It lives far from coasts, except at its reproduction period where it lives on grass slopes, cliffs or islands. Iceland has the biggest puffins population in Europe (2 to 3 millions of couples). It is a not wild and very curious bird, so you can go very close to them. For example to make this picture I was only 2 to 3 metres far from them ! No need to say these birds are incredibly cute and we had fun to photograph them ! Moreover we were lucky and had an incredible light that evening, so it was really an unforgettable moment !

Hi Olivier,
What an absolutely fabulous shot. I love the incredible light, the relatively shallow depth of field provided by F4.5, the overall balance, the golden colour and the sunlit grasses in the foreground. The puffins are well placed and complement each other. I hope to travel to Iceland in the near future so your note is especially taken on board.

What a lovely view with these two sea parrots.
You play wonderful with light and colors, nice blurred background.
This everything in a rural area.

Je suppose qu'on ne revient pas d'Islande sans ses photos de macareux ! Il y en a de belles avec la mer ou les rochers floutés en arrière plan . Celle ci est également magnifique , avec ce fond doré et un remarquable travail sur la lumière et la profondeur de champ .

La lumière dorée met bien en valeur ces macareux bien positionnés dans l'image. J'aime tout particulièrement le fait qu'ils soient positionnés tous les deux de manière différentes, ne regardant pas dans la même direction.

They are amazingly beautiful birds, and amausing to look at as well. I didnt know that they were so happy to pose, and your light, as you say is incredible here. I can read emotion I think in the one of the right hand side. Really nicely captured, thanks for sharing this.

A really majestic looking photograph with fantastic light situation. A photographers dream.
In north Norway they call these birds Lundy and some of the locals still hunt and eat them.
In Iceland they seem to take more care hopefully.
You must be a lucky man to have taken such a fine picture there. Congrats,

very impressive, not only this puffin capture but the whole reportage from your trip to Iceland.
This one is my favourite because of the cute birds of course. You have hit two birds with one shot. Not only they are so sharp and well posing but also have have captured them in the fantastic warm light of the setting sun. Excellent wildlife photography!!!

Tes derniers posts m'ont donné envie de revisiter ta série islandaise. Je crois que c'est un voyage qui t'a bien plu.
Un plaisir pour moi de voir celle ci. D'abord par que je trouve charmant ces oiseaux et ensuite pour la belle lumière dorée qui les mets en valeurs et donne son originalité à cette photo.
