Asparagus is a type of vegetable obtained from one species within the genus Asparagus, specifically the young shoots of Asparagus officinalis. It has been used from very early times as a culinary vegetable, owing to its delicate flavour and diuretic properties. There is a recipe for cooking asparagus in the oldest surviving book of recipes, Apicius's 3rd century CE De re coquinaria, Book III.

Nutrition

Asparagus is one of the more nutritionally valuable vegetables. It is the best vegetable provider of folic acid. Folic acid is necessary for blood cell formation and growth, as well as liver disease prevention. Folic acid is also important for pregnant women as it aids in the prevention of neural tube defects such as spina bifida in the developing fetus. Asparagus is very low in calories, contains no fat or cholesterol, and is very low in sodium. Asparagus is a great source of potassium, fiber, and rutin, a compound that strengthens the walls of capillaries.

Asparagus rhizomes and roots are used ethnomedically to treat urinary tract infections, as well as kidney and bladder stones.

I wish I could see green in the fields in Queensland. We are in the middle of the worst drought on record and the wet season has just ended. Your picture is dreamful with all those different greens. Well done.

I really like the one color setting you used here. The framing of the one part that matters is well done, the classic way. The DoF has been very well controlled resulting in great OOF area. Thanks for sharing!

innanzitutto devo dare un contributo alla foto: gran bella macro, ben dettagliata, ottima scelta del tempo.
Poi un amarcord e ti ringrazio: questa foto mi ha fatto ritornare indietro nell tempo quando, con qualche altro amichetto, da piccoli, andavamo per campi a raccogliere gli asparagi e stavamo via ore intere.... altro che oggi. Il più ghiotto era mio fratello.

el espárrago ya ha llegado, nuestra gastronomía lo agradece. Qué bien lo has captado en este close-up con una calidad de imagen perfecta, con una gran técnica al desenfocar el fondo para que se destaque el primer plano, y con una iluminación que nos ofrece una gran gama de tonos verdes.
El WS es muy simpático, y la vista desde tu cocina, envidiable.

Ma che mi combini?? All' "asparagus" mi ci fai le foto??
Per esempio ieri io lo impiegato come "mezzo di condimento" per le fettuccine!
cmq la foto è molto bella per i colori e la nitidezza...ma il soggetto l'avrei impiegato in altri modi...

Ciao Vinicio,
appena ho visto il thumbnail di questa, c'è stata un'attrazione "fatale" (facendo i debiti scongiuri!). Il verde è il mio colore preferito e qui ce nè in abbondanza. Adoro gli asparagi selvatici e stasera mi sono mangiato una frittatona con essi. La foto è bellissima con varie tonalità di verde fresco, direi croccante. Se fossi una mucca, vorrei un praticello come questo. Perfetta la nitidezza e la profondità di campo è stupenda.

Very beautiful macro on this plant with the medicinal properties. I like very much the various colours of green and also this superb bokeh, it is very pleasant with the eye. An interesting complementary photograph also, very beautiful sight of your kitchen !!!
