The slow agony of Nervi Hall

Travel within amazing former warehouse of salt, in the middle of a thousand projects but still in a state of abandonment
The Palafitta (the name given by Cagliari’s citizen because the building stood in a marshy area) will be saved and perhaps become an aquarium, the aquarium of the Mediterranean. It is mirror in one channel - San Bartolomeo - that maybe tomorrow will be crossed by large barges, as the Venetian boats, frotte accompany passengers to Pirri via Rome. It will no longer be isolated from abandoned buildings, surrounded by rusty hoppers and conveyor belts covered with bushes. Will be, with the nearby Museum of Nuragic and contemporary art, the attraction of a city more ambitious. For now the Nervi Hall, a symbol of salt epic, time in which the white gold was exported throughout the world and there was deposited before being transported on ships, is an example of falling industrial archeology. Designed with the twin of Santa Gilla by Pierluigi Nervi, the great Roman architect , who also created the Vatican audience hall, built in'54 and abandoned less than thirty years later, now appears as the gloomy belly of a whale carcass.

The belly of the whale: you log in from a side door that opens on un'anticamera.
From there, wide open another door, you enter a fairytale world. A huge chest of 6000 square meters long and 90 meters wide 60 without a central partition that once could raise up to 140 thousand tons of salt. The genius of Pier Luigi Nervi, a master of static, designer of stadiums (the Flaminio in Rome and Florence Franco), roads, ships, bridges (in'69 designed to Messina), has designed a huge, beautiful. The load-bearing beams are like ribs, united by red brick.

Today, the stock of salt is in the hands of the Region, where the Port Authority has used recently. Nobody knows what they will do, but it is certain that will be the focus of the walk from Giorgino to the devil Saddle and will be complementary to Betile museum . In'99 the cooperative Gulf of angels presented to the Province a project to turn it into an aquarium of the Mediterranean.
Not if they did nothing.
But that still remains the most likely hypothesis.
