San Valentino

Castle hill dominating the valley of the Nera (m.272), originally a manor house dependent on the abbey of St. Pietro in Valle. You can still find some traces of the fortifications built to 1453, after the grant received by the municipality of Spoleto, with walls to enclose the entire village, now thinned as a result of earthquakes and neglect.

The small town has never had self-government but depended on the castle Caselli, which he followed all the vicissitudes of history, from the point of view of religion belonged to the parish of Civitella.
On a small square on top on top of the country promises to the church of S. Valentino, linked to the cult of the holy bishop of Terni.

The Romanesque building, dating from the beginning of the thirteenth century, with smooth masonry curtain in front with two blocks and raining with a bell tower and houses the fresco decoration, executed between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries, with inscriptions of the developers of votive images that cover almost all the walls. Eggi of the Master and his circle are assigned a Madonna and S. Ab Antonio., two enthroned Madonnas, Madonna della Misericordia, S. Bernard, S, Pontian, Madonna del Latte, S. Lucia. The portal that opens into the right side wall is an addition to the Renaissance.

Very challenging light but a brilliant outcome with very well balanced various parts of the scene.
FRom this angle we see an interesting combination of the old house, church with a lovely bell tower amd a entrance gate wide open. I like the strong contrast which make it feel three dimesnional,

Hello Silvio,
The ordinary house, the small church and the wall and gate form a trio of very nice building. I like how the gate is open so we can catch a glimpse of the courtyard with what looks like an olive tree. That view, and the light on the inside, creates a very pleasant and cosy atmosphere, partly due to the good exposure of the photo.

I like the combination of light and shadow in this image. We see the dark facade but the gate leads to a courtyard bathed in sunshine. Nice effect.

Ciao Caro Silvio,

The sun was low, giving you strong contrasts of light and shadows but you have coped well. The view under the archway is delightful, as we move from the f/g shadows into a beautifully illuminated garden.
The archway balances the tall structures in the b/g very nicely.

Hello Silvio, I like the contrast in light between the shady areas and the sunlit parts.
Looking through the arch towards the sunlit area, I want to be able to walk through and explore.
I like how the wall of the church stands clear of any distraction and we can see the bell ready to announce a service.

Taken from in the shade we get a good view of the sunlit tree in the courtyard.
Also the upper part of the small church catches the sunlight.
Beautiful composition, excellently sharp and clear.
The mountain slope with a bit of snow on the top makes a good backdrop.
