Photographer's Note

Benedictine abbey of Praglia: it is placed between Saint Biagio and Monteortone, surrounded from the Euganean Hills, and on the background you can see the first snow on the preAlps of the northeast of Italy.
The 8 February 1107 the count Uberto of Montebello said "Maltraverso" donated to the monastery of S.Benedetto Po (Polirone) some lands in 'loco Prataleae', that is in the place that takes the name from the meadows below to the Lonzina hill. Here Maltraverso in 1113 founded the monastery of S.Maria Assunta and the 27 July 1124 the structure was granted to the monastery of Praglia.
Today the more ancient part is constituted from the bell tower of Romanesque style that laughed them to the XIII° century. The church, constructed on plan of Tullio Lombardo, is of 1490.
The plant is to Latin cross, with three aisles divided from pillars.
The cupola and the drum have been frescoed from Zelotti.
In the apse one "Ascension of Cristo" it is work of Domenico Campagnola.
The monastery is articulated in four cloisters:
- the first one is said 'botanical' why in it were cultivated "the simples": medicinal plants used from the monkes for curative purpose
- the second cloister, said 'pensile' why it's risen over a full of rocks structure, is enriched from a sink and wash-stands with polychromic marbles: it introduces to the monumental refectory famous for the lignea structure decorated of moral allegories (contiguous to the refectory is the little aerial loggia said "from Fogazzaro" why the writer of Vicenza acclimatized here a scene of a its novel)
- the third cloister is said 'double' for the two orders of arched that they constitute it
- the last cloister, said 'rustic', it has been recently restored and widened that it today accommodates a center used for conventions and cultural activities.
Between the art works, it detaches the fresco "La interment of the Lord" attributed to Girolamo Del Santo.
