Photographer's Note

The Palazzo Vecchio - massive, Romanesque, crenellated fortress-palace is among the most impressive town halls of Tuscany. Overlooking the Piazza della Signoria with its copy of Michelangelo's David statue as well the gallery of statues in the adjacent Loggia dei Lanzi, it is one of the most significant public places in Italy.

Salone dei Cinquecento - the most imposing chamber has a length of 52 m (170 ft) and is 23 m (75 ft) broad. It was built in 1494 by Simone del Pollaiolo, on commission of Savonarola who, replacing the Medici after their exile as the spiritual leader of the Republic, wanted it as a seat of the Grand Council (Consiglio Maggiore) consisting of 500 members. On the walls are large and expansive frescoes that depict battles and military victories by Florence over Pisa and Siena. (More on Wikipedia)

Hi Malgorzata,
An indoor photo where blue and yellow colors and lights mingle and creat a magnificent show on the art elements in the known Palazzo-Vecchio.
You manage the ceiling and walls in good relative clearity, as backlight struck on far side, you had no control on this factor.
Impressive, as I did not think taking shots in there, just becouse of low light conditions.

I like the way you have managed the light here - glare from the windows & sculpture lights is inevitable but here I think it adds a rather eerie mood which puts me in a historical reverie. The glint of gold on the ceiling works well with the blue shadows and you have managed to show the ghostly battle scenes in an evocative way. Well done!

Hello Malgorzata,

The point of view chosen for this photo is very particular. It puts a special attention on the magnificent ceiling decorated in gold. The sweeping view of this ceiling and the volume of the space below are very nicely presented in the image. The lighting conditions for this photo are very difficult with the window brightly lit with the sunlight coming in from outside. However the management of the interior light is first rate in my most humble opinion. The space defined by the various architectural elements is simply spectacular, a very impressive image.

Witaj, wspaniałe wnętrze Palazzo Vecchio. Piękny sufit i malowidła na ścianach. Troche mi te krzesła tu nie pasuja. Znakomite zdjecie.
Włosi tyle birora za wstępy, ze ws Florencji zrezygnowałam z wejść do róznych obiektów (podobnie i w Wenecji).

Nicely presented beauty of this big space. The picture is very clear, sharp and details are very visible. The depth of the picture is very good. Most of the picture is the upper part of this hall and I think it was a good idea to make this composition.

I really have to give you 10 out of 10 for this shot. (But where are all the people!) I was a little disappointed with the interior, compared with the exterior, and I don't think I was inspired, but this is a lovely symmetrical composition with fine details. I tried a few close-ups but was disappointed with those, too!

Witaj Malgorzata,

What a spectacular shot of the Consiglio Maggiore. The light and resolution are exquisite, and I am selecting it as a favorite among the 100 allowed in our accounts. Vasari's murals replaced the ill-fated, incomplete works that had pitted Michelangelo against Leonardo. The former was to paint a scene from the Battle of Cascina, and the latter the Battle of Anghiari. Leonardo's effort, although incomplete might be hidden behind a false wall on the right wall (Vasari virtually worshiped the two titans, and it is thought that he built a false wall in front of it, before painting his murals. The Florentine scientist/art historian, Maurizio Seracini is now using neutron activation techniques to peer behind the wall.

niestety nie dane mi bylo jeszcze odwiedzic Florencji a jest jednym z najwyzej polozonych miast na liscie tych ktorych nie widzialem.
Sam palac jest oczywiscie bardzo znany natomiast pierwszy raz widze zdjecie wnetrza i musze przyznac ze robi ogromne wrazenie. Bardzo dobra ekspozycja szczegolnie w tak trudnych warunkach oddaje dobrze atmosfere miejsca. Doskonala symetria jest przyjemna dla oka. Bardzo podoba mi sie Twoja seria zdjec z krajow srodziemnomorskich. Marza mi sie wakacje...
