Photographer's Note
Piazza Navona is for sure one of the most beautiful city squares in Rome. I had a chance to visit this place few times during my stay in Rome to admire it during different moments of a day and night. With this shot I start a short series dedicated to that wonderful place.
------------------------------------------------------
The square was built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian in 1st century AD, and follows the form of the open space of the stadium. Defined as a public space in the last years of 15th century, when the city market was transferred to it from the Campidoglio, the Piazza Navona was transformed into a highly significant example of Baroque Roman architecture and art during the pontificate of Innocent X, who reigned in 1644-1655 and whose family palace, the Palazzo Pamphili, faced onto the piazza. It features important sculptural and architectural creations: in the center stands the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi or Fountain of the Four Rivers (1651) by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, topped by the Obelisk of Domitian, brought here in pieces from the Circus of Maxentius; the church of Sant'Agnese in Agone by Francesco Borromini, Girolamo Rainaldi, Carlo Rainaldi and others; and the aforementioned Pamphili palace, also by Girolamo Rainaldi, that accommodates the long gallery designed by Borromini and frescoed by Pietro da Cortona. Piazza Navona has two additional fountains: at the southern end is the Fontana del Moro with a basin and four Tritons sculpted by Giacomo della Porta (1575) to which, in 1673, Bernini added a statue of a Moor, or African, wrestling with a dolphin, and at the northern end is the Fountain of Neptune (1574) created by Giacomo della Porta. The statue of Neptune in the northern fountain, the work of Antonio Della Bitta, was added in 1878 to make that fountain more symmetrical with La Fontana del Moro in the south. More: Wikipedia

Czesc Gosiu,

Ciao e buon fine settimana

Hello Gosia,
The rainy atmosphere makes for a beautifully lit composition. The point of view is excellent looking across the magnificent fountain toward the focal point offered by the obelisk with this wonderful architecture dominating the left-hand side. Superb colours and sharpness. Who says you can't make a great picture in terrible weather?

Firstly, let me say Gosia, that you have managed to present this vertical shot at a size perfectly managed to allow me to see in in full without scrolling! Brilliant. If I may ask, what where the number of pixels you posted for the height? Secondly, what a wonderful shot. It may have been wet but the light is attractively managed with detail in the sky and nice highlights on the water surrounding the sculptures. The warm orange shades in the distance inject a subtle but valuable contrast. Beautiful location and so well presented. Warm regards Rosemary

Le mauvais temps n'enlève rien à la beauté saisissante de cette place romaine. Les fontaines sont fantastiques sous tous les angles et toutes les lumières.J'aime la grande netteté de l'ensemble ainsi que les belles couleurs qui ressortent.

I agree with you, probably the most beautiful piazza in Rome or even in Italy. You chose a beautiful POV to illustrate your point. Even in the rain, this square is majestic. I love the colours, the wonderful surrounding architecture and the incredible art of Bernini that this piazza is so famous for.
Great job, have a lovely weekend

Hello Gosia,
The camera setytings for a cloudy weather gave a beautiful texture, like an old monument deserve to be looked upon.
Beautiful colors and fantastic clarity. The statues have an excelent place on pic. space, while the Obelisk, towers and dome contrast to the grey sky.
Impressive photo posted.

Hello Gosia,
The depth and quality of this is super with a very well chosen viewpoint that clearly shows the detail on the statues. The dark clouds are balanced by the dark reflections of the base of the fountain. I like the colours and clarity of the buildings and the water. A classic place taken with your usual skill.

Great POV with very sharp image from front to back. I like the moody clouds too. Not how you imagine Rome to be!
Yes, I was inspired to go to the Museu Blau by your shots on TE, I like the building but the area around it was quite isolated I thought - I will be posting another similar to one of yours today.

Hi Gosia,
I am here to say that I envy your possession of 12-35mm lens which I still don't have. Impressive results with the 12 mm focal length. To me this image is "Executing one's knowledge to perfection", and see the flow of smiles declaring this image as one of the best shots in your gallery.
"Congratulations".

Hello Gosia,
Very cool shot, I love the dramatic mood created by the dark clouds. While some of us maybe discourage by the rain, you made the best of it anyway. The rain also make the colors richer without too strong contrast. Excellent POV and really good depth with the vertical format.

Hi Gosia,
So difficult to come away with an new perspective from this most famous piazza, and although I've seen similar, this is impressive on a new level for me! Not only is it sound in composition, but your treatment has given the atmosphere a twist that is both inviting and even a bit dark and mysterious. That being said, it's taken on a different appeal than what's generally seen...and I like it a lot! Compliments on creating something original. Have a great day ahead.
