Photographer's Note

This picture was taken in the mountain village of Verbicaro - a truly incredible place, deep in the heart of Calabria (Italy's most southern mainland province). The town is home to some of Italy's oldest Byzantine churches and a population whose traditions are steeped in history. The wine harvested in this area is some of Italy's best, though least known as many of the grapes are exported to France. However, the locals also make wine and visitors to the area can sample it in local shops along the side of the road, up to the town. If you're intrested in knowing more about Verbicaro, check out my work on the site:
