Photographer's Note
The Basilica of Santa Croce is a minor basilica in Florence. Construction of the current building began in 1294 and was consecrated in 1442. It’s a Franciscan church with an austere interior and contains the burial places and monuments to many famous Florentines. The cloister of the basilica contains a chapter house, the Capella die Pazzi, designed by Brunelleschi, designer of the Florence Duomo’s dome. The facade was added later, as with many Florentine churches, in the 19th century. In the 1966 flood the basilica suffered major damage as it lies low and near the river in former marshlands.
Some of the artists who worked on projects within the church include, Canova, Cimabue, Donatello and Vasari, among many others.
Some of the funerary monuments inside are for Leon Battista Alberti, Dante (although he is buried in Ravenna), Galileo, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Machiavelli, Michelangelo, Rossini, Guglielmo Marconi (buried near Bologna) and Enrico Fermi (buried in Chicago) along with several others.

Hello Paul,
You found an excellent high viewpoint for this picture of the Basilica di Santa Croce and the green hills around Firenze.
What a beautiful light on its facade, its tower and the roofs of the houses on the foreground.
Although the picture is taken in December, we find some beautiful autumn tones on the trees just outside the city.
Best regards, Paul

Bonsoir, Paul,
La version large nous plonge magnifiquement sur la ville et particulièrement sur la Basilique.
La lumière est superbe et caresse délicatement l'architecture générale.
Félicitations.
Amitiés.

Hello Paul,
I like this "bird-view" point of view! It looks like you were in a balloon or a plane when you took this picture.
The light is nice, the sharpness very good.

Hello Paul,
This is a nice high angle shot of this beautiful church. The angle of the shot is nice creating depth and balance for the scene. The lighting is fine and the photo has excellent sharpness and detail.

I wonder how many 'drones' I would need so that I could be lifted high enough to get beautiful photos like this, Paul?
Well blow me over, I thought building on flood lands was a modern disease!
Amazing catch, thanks.

Hello Paul - You found a super viewpoint from which to photograph the Basilica di Santa Croce. I like the fact that your shot includes so much context. The river in the rear and the hills that rise above it and the FG detail with rooftops and bristling antennae. Nice too that we can see the beautifully inlaid façade of the church contrasted with the unadorned side view.
I'm keen to know where you were when you took this shot. It's very attractive.
Warm regards
Rosemary
