Photographer's Note

As I was preparing for our stay in Pisa, I was looking through Carlo’s gallery of the region, which is incredibly well-documented.
I came across this beautiful graphic picture of an old part of the Vespa factory turned into a parking lot.
I didn’t even know that Pontedera (~20km east of Pisa) was the seat of the famous Vespa ! So we decided it would be an interesting visit to do.
I looked for this stylish car park, asked about no avail… And then, just as we stepped out onto the railway platform, there it was just in front of us !
So here is a tribute to Carlo who was so kind to us when we met him 2 days later.

WS The railway platform

Pontedera is a town of 29 000 inhabitants situated at the confluence of the Era river (hence its name) and of the Arno river.
It’s mostly famous for the PIAGGIO company, makers of the famous Vespas, its Piaggio-Vespa museum, but also for the wine company CASTELLANI, AND for the CHOCOLATE COMPANY “AMEDEI” considered to be one of the finest chocolate producers in the world ! Oh dear ! We didn’t know that, while we were there :-( So it will have to be for the next time :-)
