Pavimento musivo – Cattedrale di Santa Maria AssuntarnIn the central nave the mosaic floor, even if reworked, is still largely the one with Cosmatesque motifs of the 12th century Romanesque construction. It is made up of stone, porphyry and serpentine tiles. As far as we can see today, those known elements may refer to a first phase, perhaps Cosmatesque, but unfortunately totally tampered with by approximate renovations, such as the three large quincunxes in the center of the nave that guide the path up to the transept.rnThe floor of the side aisles, on the other hand, in white and red lozenges, was built in 1481 by Matteo Rosso Balsimelli da Settignano.r
