Photographer's Note

My previous post from this location included a meditation on the meaning of place and just what it is exactly that draws us to us a certain destination.

On the other hand, place is becoming less and less relevant, as we spend more and more time virtually somewhere else. Mobile internet, social media and fast phones make it possible to feel like we're not really where we are. A distraction, not something I particulary like.

THIS PICTURE shows a young woman on her phone. She has found a cool spot in the shade in front of the imposing facade of the Chisa Parrocchiale S. Antonio Taumaturgo, a big neo-classical church located near the top of the iconic Gran Canal de Trieste. I showed you a picture of that church in my previous post.

Lepa arhitektura, dobro poakzano sa kontrastom i uhvacenim trenutkom sa devojkom na stepenistu.
Dobar rad lepa crno bela fotografija.
Dosla su moderna vremena i zavisnost od tehnike.

Hello Benny,

This is a very well judged follow-on from your previous photograph. Previously, we saw a much larger view of the church but here, you have honed in on the details of the pillars, sharply detailed in b&w, with the single, silhouetted figure, strongly positioned in the corner.

Your photograph must cause people to consider, to speculate about the figure!

Goedemiddag Benny,

Terug in de tijd met deze zwart-wit foto.
De witte kolommen zijn een mooi contrast tegen de donkere achtergrond.
Het meisje heeft u bewust in het donker laten zitten, zo is ze niet herkenbaar.
De toegangstrap geeft een duwtje om boven te geraken.
Goed foto werk, bedankt.

I always think that colour reigns although in certain historical settings the black and white lends itself to stronger impact. The strength and size of those columns are very appealing, just overwhelm the fig in the foreground. A wonderful location and a very well observed and captured architectural study. Congrats

Hi Benny,
Very well spotted silhouette of the lady with the phone.
An impressive repeated motif of the columns. Great light with diagonal shade.
Sometimes I think it is a waste for people to be there. If they are on the phone, they seems as it they would like to be elsewhere. I have a friend who lives in California and she has never been to Great Canyon, what a waste I always thought: living near amazing places and not making use of it.

while in italy I had no time to visit this important city.
a marvelous use of the columns and the dark silhouette of the personage. a compo with a special graphic mood. well done.
