Grutti Castle - Gualdo Catteneo (PG)rnrnThe castle stands on the so-called Petroniano Plateau, at 506 m a.s.l. on a large terrace, formed by travertine benches, which faces west with a long edge overhanging the Tiber valley.rnAt the foot of the cliff, under the current town and up to nearby San Terenziano, there are a series of small shelters and ravines, in two of them finds of prehistoric pottery have been found. The frequentation of the caves has continued until recent times with various uses, perhaps also frequented by the first Christians, then used as a shelter for animals and as an air-raid shelter during World War II.rnLittle is known of the Roman period, it was a colony in the Augustan period, together with the nearby San Terenziano, but documentary evidence is lacking; a kilometer and a half from Grutti were found the remains of a Roman villa, the Vedi, with fragments of travertine columns, pavements and a funerary temple.

This is a classic of your style, with lots of archways, passages and strong textural details.
There are many options for exploring the scene which helps to make it very interesting.
How exciting, that a Roman villa was found nearby! There must be lots of historical remains, still under the soil! Great for archaeologists!

Nice point of view which allowed you to include side by side two arches. The resulting geometry is eye pleasing. There seem to be a multitude oa passages there, it must feel like a labirynth.

This Grutti Castle ... I find quite interesting in terms of it was built by 'travertine' rocks , seen in this picture I supposed.
There are many arches to adore and steps to explore ... in the oasis of peace and mystery, inside this castle.
You've shown us the best POV of this marvelous medieval castle. I like the two contrast of the walls and a stairway in between ( leading to nowhere ).
