Photographer's Note
The Roman House is placed on a terrace immediately above the one of the forum. It is a house discovered in 1885 that belonged to a prominent character of the Roman Spoleto, probably Vespasia Polla, mother of Emperor Vespasiano, as evidenced by a fragment of inscription with a dedication of a certain Polla to Caligula, found in the well of the house : it was native of Norcia and owner of property in the nursino-Spoleto territory. This valuable stately home of the first century AD C. shows an architectural scheme that reflects the classic Roman patrician houses: in fact, you can admire the atrium, equipped with a basin for collecting rainwater called impluvium; the tablinum, or the main room of the domus; the triclinium, the space where lunch was served; the peristilium, that portico that encircled the garden or the inner courtyard placed at the center of the houses and also the cubicula, the small rooms destined to the bedroom and the alae, two areas of disengagement.
All the rooms are paved with mosaics and in some places traces of frescoes are visible. The house, restored in the century following its construction, remained in use until the early medieval period and then was probably destroyed by a fire while during the fifteenth century, during the construction of the palace of the family Brancaleoni, was sacrificed what it remained of the front part. Some of the rooms remained partially illuminated in 1784 during the total renewal of the overlying Town Hall, and then remained hidden until 1885.

Hello Silvio,
This photo is very well composed and shows a beautiful room captured with a very good light. The floor is particularly beautiful. The red ropes are not really part of the view but provide a photographically nice detail. I find this one of your most attractive photos for a while.
Best regards,
Gert

A great photo of this large room and vaults with excellent lighting and sharpness, which you both handled so well. The red rope is a great and eye-catching detail.

Hi Silvio,
Those mosaics look well detailed compared to the rough texture of vaults. That piece of column is smoothly lit and as such makes a perfect focal point.

Hi Silvio,
La longueur du corridor donne de la profondeur à la composition. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails de cette partie de la maison. L'image est claire et nette. Bonne soirée.

Hello Silvio.
Superb composition with the view of this beautifully preserved Roman house, a pity that part of it was lost in the later constructions of the surrounding buildings.
A nice color, good lighting and perfect sharpness.
Well done. I like.
Enjoy the day.
Kind regards.
Luis.
