Sillane substructures - Spoleto (PG)
They are located in Via dello Spagna, along a stepped path that leads to a tiny clearing of the Vicolo Leoncilli.
They were excavated in 1963 and probably date back to the period of Lucio Cornelio Silla, 1st century BC.
It is a masonry ambulatory made of limestone blocks, with nine arches and ten pillars, about 30 meters long. For about 20 meters the path is straight, then turns almost at right angles to the right. The external side is supported by powerful arches which rest on square pillars and are opened by narrow splayed slits; the barrel vault is in concrete.
Popular tradition, not without credibility, leads it back to the remains of the mythical and unknown palace of Theodoric, which was later to host the powerful Lombard Dukes of Spoleto.

Hello Silvio,
The person seen through the arch is a good focal point and creates some dynamism to the composition. We can see that this was a magnificent building showing the brilliant craftsmanship of the ancient workers or the Roman empire.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Silvio.
It seems incredible that after two thousand years, these walls remain so perfect, but the Romans knew how to build very well, perfect stone ashlars and perfect arches.
Optimal composition and good color, light and sharpness.
Nice job. I like it
Have a nice day.
Luis.
