Moriano Castle - Giano dell’Umbria (PG)
The origins of Moriano are unknown and controversial, in the opinion of Fausti, shared by Ceccaroni, it can be identified with the ancient castle of Morice or Murice, the hypothesis is questionable but some documentary evidence and a circumstantial evidence exist to support it.
Muratori describes the castle of Murice located near Morcicchia and Clarignano, in the territory of the parish of Giano (in plebe de Luzano or Lucciano).
Sansi speaks of it as "a castle located not far from Giano and Morcicchia".
Continuing to quote Sansi “It can help to determine the site where this castle was, now ignored by all, to know that Morcicchia still exists, according to the indication of a donation deed from the time of Gregory VII, (Cod. Riccar. number 228 fol. 107.) was inter Muricem et Clarignanum and which Clarignano bordered with Morcicchia and with Colle del Marchese (Rifor. Com. Spol. An. 1511) ".
Other circumstantial evidence comes from the reading of the fourteenth-century code Pelosius, the churches “S. Pancratii de Collis Marchionis, S. Blasii de Morice, S. Sylvestri de Moricicula “.
Missing in this list Moriano, whose church was evidently existing at the time, it can therefore be assumed that S. Blasii de Morice can be identified with the current church of San Martino, which over time has changed its title.
It is also possible that the name is a predial, in memory of an ancient Roman settlement existing there, of which, however, no traces have been found.

Hello Silvio,
This looks very modest for being called a castle, but it could perhaps be converted into a very nice hotel. The note doesn't say anything about its present use. It looks good from this fairly low angle and you had a very good light.
Best regards,
Gert

Ciao Silvio, buona cattura con bidoni al seguito, la foto parla di tempi antichi ma anche di un ottimo lavoro di conservazione di queste case, luce non facile un po' sparata sulla destra. Buona serata,Luciano

Hi Silvio,
Well taken this Castle, good perspective effect with the view of the street in the Fg, nice contrast of light and warm tones for walls in sunlight, tfs.

Ciao Caro Silvio,
This looks like a very interesting, stone building, with balconies and neat arches, but doesn't give the impression of a castle.
The light was very strong and though most of the building is nicely captured, there is just a little oe on the nearest section.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Silvio.
Magnificent construction of this castle, with two wings built with tower-type houses, a construction with good stone to last.
Magnificent color, good management of lighting and sharpness.
Well done. I like it.
Have a nice day.
Very best regards, my friend.
Luis.
