Photographer's Note
Taormina
By far the most remarkable monument remaining at Taormina is the ancient theatre (the teatro greco, the "Greek theatre"), which is one of the most celebrated ruins in Sicily, on account both of its remarkable preservation and of the surpassing beauty of its situation.
It is built for the most part of brick, and is therefore probably of Roman date, though the plan and arrangement are in accordance with those of Greek, rather than Roman, theatres; whence it is supposed that the present structure was rebuilt upon the foundations of an older theatre of the Greek period.
With a diameter of 109 metres (after an expansion in the 2nd century), this theatre is the second largest of its kind in Sicily (after that of Syracuse); it is frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances and for concerts.

Yo Stephen!
I love what you've done to the sky! Really brought out the fine highlights of blue giving the sweeping clouds another element. Nice POV and composition.
Cheers

Hi Stephen, you have chosen the best point of view, the view is wide and soooo impressive!
Technically the photo is perfect, the sky helps here more to give in the atmosphere a little dramatical ton.
It is superb to have in your photo the visitors there.

Bonsoir Stephen
Très beau cliché de cet amphithéatre bien saisi en contre-plongée pour nous faire admirer toute la beauté de l'architecture avec de très belles couleurs.
Merci pour le partage et bonne soirée.

Hi Stephen,
Great breathing photo! The framing of the theatre from its top opens the view to the landscape behind and it give much depth.. I appreciate your frame that accentuates the panoramic aspect.
Good job!

Delphine

hi Stephen
interesting place and nice composition but looks strange for me. like two different images. the sky and the ground. lightning on the lower part doesn't suits the sky I feel. I know the clouds could be completely different in those parts we don't see at the photo... maybe it is just working on two layers with masks...
of course I can be completely wrong but just what I feel
cheers

Classical! The wide angle came in handy on this one, as it gives us the sweeping panorama of the amphitheatre (with that perfect curve of the semi-circle) and the gorgeous view of the hills and ocean beyond. I find that the sky adds a dramatic flair to the scene and really takes it up to another level. Excellent!

Un traitement qui donne un aspect étrange à l'image (pour le ciel surtout) mais le résultat est fantastique avec une composition splendide.

Wonderful picture: the theatre is fabulous but your photo is excellent for other reasons:
- position of the scene along the diagonale
- fantastic sky
- beauiful,natural colours

Hi Stephen, love how expansive this is, and your use of the wide angle is fantastic. The swirls of clouds in the great blue sky mirroring the curves in the seating area, and that fabulous view that stretches the eye to the horizon. Great shot!
