‘Frescoes of the Monastery of Treskavec’
The Monastery of Treskavec is situated on a rocky hilltop 8 km north of Prilep (not to be confused with the hill of Markovi Kuli).
It has been built in the 12th century and possesses a large collection of frescoes of which the oldest date from the 15th century.
Sadly it was largely destroyed by a fire in early 2010.
During my visit in the summer of 2018 the rebuilding was still in progress.
As a result, outdoor shots made little sense. There was work going on everywhere. One photo in the WS demonstrates this. So now I will show you mainly photos of the beautiful frescoes that have either not withstood undamaged the test of time.
Because of the many frescoes, a visit is still highly recommended. I also thought the surroundings were very beautiful.
No idea when the repairs will be finished.
Here you can see a picture of what the monastery once looked like:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treskavec_Monastery#/media/File:Treskavec_Monastery_02.jpg
I notice that a lot of TE members now show pictures with Christmas or New Year decorations.
Currently I have no such suitable photos.
So it will be these frescoes in Treskavec.
Anyway, I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Salut Paul,
de superbes fresques pour ce plafond et dôme, très bien cadré sous cet angle, le rendu, lumière et teintes comme la netteté sont idéalement gérés, intéressante photo.

Hello Paul,
Thank you for not showing any over-decorated Christmas trees. But at my first glance here I thought that maybe the large red figure above the lowest window might have been Santa Claus. Looking at the enlarged version I realized it was just the usual Madonna with the child on her lap. These photos are all interesting and you managed the light well, but it's obvious that even before the fire the paintings were not in the best shape.
I wish you a Merry Christmas.

Goedemiddag Paul,
Uit ervaring weet ik dit zijn zeer moeilijke beden om te maken.
Maar geef toe dat u er goed in geslaagd bent om er iets mooi van te maken.
Ik heb reeds lang grote belangstelling in frescoes.
Hoe langer men kijkt hoe meer men ontdekt
Paul het is een vrij scherpe foto.
Mooi gedaan, bedankt.

Hello Paul,
Colorful frescoes in a monastery are a fine choice for a Christmas photo. :-) It's a shame the monastery was so badly damaged, but at least they are repairing it. The artwork is beautiful, and I like your composition, including the small windows. Have a very Merry Christmas!

Hallo Paul,
Een heel mooie foto van de plafondschilderingen hier. De warme tinten steken mooi af tegen de witte muren en het licht was heel aangenaam.

Hi Paul,
I love how people show their reportages and when the occasion like Christmas happen the simply continue but they have a very suitable photo from the same trip for the occasion. I don't have anything like that at hand.
This is a beautiful interior, sorry to hear that it was largely damaged again. May be you should send your photos there to help them to restore the missing bits.
Very impressive series of photos. Orthodox churches are always so decorative and photogenic.
Merry Christmas,
M

Dag Paul,
Prettige feestdagen, Groet Rob

Hi Paul
Beautiful frescos indeed. Well photographed too and I like the combination of the interior and the windows showing the world outside. Thank you for the WS photos and link to Wiki as well, with the lovely aerial image.
My acquaintance with Trescavec monastery was opposite to yours - I never got to see it inside, after some adventures on the way to Prilep, involving a flat tyre in my rental car. But I do have some photos of the exterior surrounded by mountains, taken from some distance with a telephone lens.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas too.

Hello Paul, I like the orthodox churches because the whole walls are usually covered with frescoes. In this old monastery, it was probably the same but the large part is destroyed. But still what remained is beautiful. There is much written here. Later I will try to read. Exvellent presetation.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Paul.
What a pity that in the past these artistic jewels were not known to be valued, the monastery looks very deteriorated but with a good restoration wonders could be achieved, in these precious paintings there is a lot of potential.
Both the main photo and those of the WS, give us a good ideal of its fabulous interior.
Both the color and the brightness of the photo are magnificent, highlighting the beauty and sharpness of the composition.
Very well done. I like it.
Have a good day.
Very best regards.
Luis.
