Photographer's Note
‘Kruševo - Firewood for winter’
For Pavle
who in the past has often presented us with photos of piles of firewood in Serbia.
When I passed by here on the hill in Kruševo I immediately thought of his photos.
In my youth I also saw such large piles of firewood in Belgium, but not since then.
In the WS you will find two photos of another traditional crop of the Prilep- Kruševo region: tobacco.
The region is known for its production of quality tobacco. The tradition goes back to 1873 when the first warehouse for purchasing and processing tobacco was built.
In 1949 the then Government of Yugoslavia established a state-owned tobacco company in Prilep. Soon Prilep's tobacco brought the first money in Yugoslavia from abroad.

Hello Paul,
The chopped firewood is a secondary item to look at 6this picture. The main subject are the red roof-tiles houses upon the far side slope.
Anyway, managed with a nice combination of the whole.
remarkable contrast from green.
Good afternoon,

Bonjour Paul,

Mooi foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Vlaanderen,
John

Dag Paul,
wat een mooi punt om vanaf het uitzicht over de stad en het dal in de verte te nemen met het mooi gestapelde brandhout op de voorgrond. Erg fraai.
Groet, Gerrit

Hi Paul,
Nice series of photos again. I enjoyed the close up view of the tobacco!
Great multiple layers of the composition here. The piles of wood are interesting indeed but there is more and eventually a splendid panorama in the distance.
Excellent reportage,
M

Hello Paul,
I am relieved to see you back in North Macedonia. These are among your best photos from that journey. Especially the main photo is packed with interesting and attractive features, not just the piles of wood that immediately made me think of Pavle even before I read the note. I like the red and orange roofs, including the rusty corrugated iron covering the wood. I also like the three sections of green vegetation, starting with very light in the foreground, darker further back and much darker in the distance.
It is generally a very nice scenery and very good colours. If anyone saw you creeping under the plastic cover they must have wondered if that stranger was going to steal their tobacco.
Best regards,
Gert

Hello Paul,
Your photograph is full of fine, interesting details and creates a photograph with a tremendous sense of depth.
The stacked wood gives textured patterns and shapes whilst the m/g and b/g hold geometric roof patterns, warm and welcoming.
I wonder if the tobacco company is still profitable, considering the connection between smoking and lung cancer.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Paul,I did not know that this area was renowned for tobacco, your photo in the WS reminds me of Cuba, where the drying of the leaves is a must in the whole island, great view also in the main photo, in fact it occurred to me Pavle before reading your notes, top quality as always.Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hi Paul
Great reportage that gives us a good idea what the daily life must look like. There was plenty of tobacco being grown in my area of Poland when I was a child but it was big, endless fields, I've never seen a structure like the one in your WS image. The piles of wood, in turn, remind me of my quick visit at the village of Maloviste in (then not "North") Macedonia. I saw numerous people an donkeys carrying piles of wood from the mountains down to the village. It was mid-May so that's what I call planning ahead!
I love the various layers in the main image: the blue sky, rooftop view, wood and green grass.
Best wishes
Kasia

Bonjour Paul

Hi Paul
A good photo of winter fuel supplies and of the roof tops of the town. I can see plenty of chimneys in the photo. Wood fires are great for warmth and atmosphere but unfortunately not good in these days of climate change.
cheers

Salut Paul,
En effet, l'hiver est attendu avec une belle quantité de bûches, jolie composition avec ces différents plans, herbe, boi et ville, belle luminosité, intéressant.

Hi Paul
you may not believe me, but i'm being 100% honest...before reading your note, i actually said to myself...This looks like a photo Pavle would show us...then I see you dedicated it to him...so funny. these scenes go on forever, which is good, lots of depth and visual interest. wish we had these colored rooftops here in Canada. fun scene
cheers

Hello Paul, an excellent view across the countryside with the inclusion of the store of firewood, ready for the winter.
The houses seem quite uniform but look attractive spread over the hillside.
Interesting shots and information about tobacco. I wonder if there has been a decline in growing and selling tobacco with the health implications that we are now very aware of from smoking?
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Paul Three excellent pictures of this picturesque village. Again, I find it great that all people follow the same style - small white houses and red roofs. Indeed, Pavle shows us the piles of wood for winter. It is not an efficient and eco-friendly way of getting warm. But what is the alternative there? Tobacco is also grown in Poland.
Best regards Malgo

Hi Paul,
Lovely rural view from high up on the hills. This view has so many levels on different distances. Very fresh foreground. Piles of firewood behind it. Then the rooftops and houses on the hillside. Finally mountains behind the valley far back.

Hello Paul,
This is a very appealing composition. The view of firewood in the foreground, and houses in the background, is colorful, and nicely balanced. You has a slightly higher POV, which is also nice. Take care!
