Photographer's Note
‘My blue hour walk in Bitola’
Of course I made sure that I wasn’t indoors somewhere in Bitola during the blue hour.
An opportunity I couldn't pass up.
As I've said before, I travel lightweight. So no tripod available.
Sometimes I can place my camera on a wall, but that was not possible here either.
All these photos were taken handheld.
In the beginning of the blue hour this is still achievable but as it gets darker it becomes more difficult to impossible.
So not the best quality but I like the magic of the blue hour.
These photos were taken at previously shown locations in the center of Bitola.
My main picture shows Magnolia Square with the mosques and the clock tower behind me.

Three wonderful picture from early evening throughout town, Paul.
Main post has good symmetry and balance from illumination that wer already on, to the darkening gray sky above.
Have a nice friday,

Hello Paul,
The main photo looks like it was the earliest one, and possibly also the sharpest. However, the WS pictures seem to capture even better the magic of the blue hour, as it turns into night. I don't see any particular problems of lacking sharpness, but I see a lot more people and a more exciting atmosphere. It makes no difference to me which is the main post, but those who don't look at the workshops will miss something.
Thanks for your comments earlier. I don't actually remember visiting any mosques in Iraq, not even the famous old mosque with the leaning minaret (now blown up) in Mosul, so maybe non-Muslims weren't allowed. Or we just decided we had seen enough in Turkey and Iran.
Have a nice weekend,
Gert

Pozdrav.
Lep pogled i trenutak, dobar tekst ...

Hi Pail
The quality is fine. Sharpness is more than adequate and the blue hour colours contrast well with the yellow illumination. Tfs!

Bonjour Paul,

Mooi foto werk, bedankt.
Groeten uit Oost-Vlaanderen,
John

Hello Paul,
No need to worry about these photographs, even without a tripod, they seem perfectly sharp and clearly record the mood, too. It looks so inviting with the lights, the leisurely attitude of the figures and that amazing sky.
You have given us lots of information from your w/s shots, my favourite being the popcorn seller, which places him so strongly in the f/g, with lots going on beyond. Let’s hope others turn to the w/s too and don’t miss what you have shared.
Have a good w/e,
Bev 😊

Hi Paul,
Fantastic series of blue hour photos, I am so impressed that you manage without the tripod. In fact I always get the cheapest tripod not because I cannot afford better but because it is lightweight. I use star 75 from hama.
It gives a lot of flexibility and does not take weight in the baggage. And it is so cheap that I don't care if I loose it.
Beautiful photos, here a lovely square with stylish architecture around the square with the original fountain.
Excellent work,
M

Hi Paul,4 different perspectives from Bitola, I did not know this city but as far as I can see there is a lot of tourist movement during the evening, and it is also very well maintained and clean. The blue hour always gives a noticeable effect by contrasting the yellow electric lights, and the result is excellent despite the absence of the tripod. Have a nice weekend and thanks,Luciano

Hi Paul
I don't travel with tripods either. This is a good hand held blue hour photo with lots of good town centre detail.
cheers

Hello Paul, I have a light tripod and it is composed of four parts, so is small and I usually have it with me, even travelling with hand luggage only. But later, I am lazy and I rarely use it. But it is an excellent picture handheld. Nice early blue hour. This square reminds me a bit of the square in Skopje but on a much smaller scale. Nice play to enjoy the warm evening.
Best regards MAlgo

Hello Paul, four excellent blue hour shots. I like the colours of the lights that add to the scene, as well as reflecting on some of the surfaces.
It looks a very interesting place.
Kind regards, Jean.

Hello Paul,
This is a beautiful blue hour shot. Everything is beginning to light up, and the fountain looks a bit like the top of a UFO! There's a nice variety of architecture, too.

Hi Paul.
A great composition at blue hour, with this charming square surrounded by beautiful buildings, the great fountain in the center with its jets of water and the sculpture, creates a set of remarkable beauty.
Magnificent photos also in the WS.
Great color and good management of light and sharpness.
I like it. Good weekend.
Greetings.
Luis.
