Lost between the lines, a photo from Utrecht, South

Photographer's Note

A shot made on a grey winter afternoon near Duurstede castle ruins, not far from Utrecht, Netherlands. As you see, the drawbridge is up, so the castle is closed. A couple walking along the road seemed to be lost in this world of lines and reflections...

The castle, where the bishop of Utrecht used to live, dates from the end of 13 century, although it has been rebuilt numerous times after that before being destroyed by the French in 1672. The name of the town, which received city rights in 1300, is 'Wijk bij Duurstede' which means 'neighbourhood near Duurstede'. Wijk bij Duurstede is located at the place where Dorestad used to be, an important trade settlement, that was pillaged around 850 by the Vikings.

In Wijk bij Duurstede is the only mill in the world you can drive through.

I haven't seen you here for a very long time Alexander - it's good to have you back!
This is the kind of image that's made for monochrome, and I like the balance you achieved between the bridge and it's reflection.
The many branches in the foreground do get in the way slightly though - nothing a chainsaw wouldn't have fixed!
Anyway, I like it.

The b/w gives this a great mood, Alex. It just had to be b/w, the naked trees, the feeling of desolation...great moody shot.

een prachtige plaats voor een foto Alexander.
Als het goed is heb ik er ook een paar van deze mooie plaats op TE. Ik vind het fraai dat je voor een zwart with versie hebt gekozen, mooi lijnenspel, goed fotowerk. Prettige avond.

Beautiful aesthetic serene shot, Sasha, one I am much drawn to for its lovely composition and elegant understatement. The lines are wonderfully interweaving, bridge and branches create a graphic continuity that is beautiful.
