A windmill on the Rhine, a photo from Zuid Holland, South

Photographer's Note

Leiden is a university town since 1575. By 1600 it was the biggest city after Amsterdam. It is also the birthplace of Rembrant, on July 15th, 1606.

This windmill is called "De Put", after the owner of the mill that stood on this very spot in the 17th century. It was only at that century that people started to build windmills on riverbanks.

Sujet classique que le moulin . Mais très bien traité ici , avec cette ouverture entre les branches lumineuses , et ces canoés rouges vifs au premier plan .

Those red kayaks/canoes really make a great foreground and add striking colour to this very good photo. Superb the way you have framed the windmill with the trees. Great sky too, with its vapour trails and whispy clouds. Nice work.

Une jolie composition avec une belle idée d'utilisation de ce rouge (toujours bienvenu!) en premier plan qui contraste bien avec le bleu du ciel. Même les traces d'avion sont judicieusement exploitées et donnent l'illusion de deux fils tenant les ailes du moulin.

Hello André,

Un avant plan lumineux et coloré qui contraste avec ce moulin et sa grande partie ombragée.
La présence de l'arbre de droite est peut-être un brin trop importante. La compo s'en trouve un peu déséquilibrée. Un cadrage plus serré aurait permis de donner de la force au moulin.
Sinon, tu as bien fait d'utiliser cet avant plan très fort. Cela donne un point d'accroche particulier à la scène.

the vertical frame is good composed, i like most the red canoes in the foreground. They are giving an exotical touch to the old classical windmill. Pretty good work with much depth and sharpness, TFS

How's life? The windmill De Put is quite unique compared to the other windmills we normally see, but the composition is superbly done with the couple of red canoes in the FG. The light is good as it lights up the tree from the left!

je détecte une trame rouge qui se dégage de tes derniers posts...bon ok, sauf le tout dernier en orange mais on est pas loin....Et ces kayaks fkashys au premier plan font tout l'attrait de cette photo je trouve, au demeurant fort bien composée comme à ton habitude of course!

what strikes me most about this photo is the addition of the canoes.
We don't usually see canoes in windmill scenes! So for that reason it truly makes it unique.
the splash of red is very vidid and contrasts smartly with the other primary colours.

Hi Andre, hope your keeping well. Love this composition which you have build here and do have a love for windmills. Great colour contrasts with the boats. I would maybe lift the shadows alittle here, other than that a terrific capture. Nice one.
