Photographer's Note
I've showed you the villages East of Haarlem, now it's time for the villages West of Haarlem.
First of all, the village of Santpoort. Here you can find the Ruïne van Brederode (Ruins of Brederode), which you can see on my picture here.
The ruins are the remainings of the Castle of Brederode. This castle was built by Willem I van Brederode in the second part of the 13th century. It was situated on the mainroad through the County of Holland. The castle was very import for the trade and the defence of the region of Kennemerland (the area between Alkmaar and Haarlem).
In the 14th and 15th century there were a lot of wars in Kennemerland and after having rebuilt a couple of times, the castle became finally a ruin in 1491.
Nowadays you can visit the castle or what's left of it.
I cropped this picture a little bit and made it more clear and colourful. I hope you like it!

Oh wow, Lars!
A masterwork! It's just like a painting from the romatic period. Is so great! Spooky, dramatic, warm and mysterieus at the same time.
I love the colours, the sky (also like a painting) and the shadow-light-contrasts.

The famous (for me, it's in my neighbourhood...) Ruines Van Brederode and in a very special mood: the full colours, wonderful light and the "old look" of the castle, like a painting, a medieval mood maybe, it's a great one, Lars !

Wonderful light of a late afternoon creating great structures on those brick walls. Romantic atmosphere, ruins, warm light, time to dream... Well done Lars, thanks for posting it to us.

Bonsoir Lars,
Les ruines sont encore de qualité (il y a encore de beaux restes), l'on peut s'imaginer approximativement l'architecture générale du château.
Très belle lumière donnant de magnifiques couleurs.
Très belle composition Lars.
Bien amicalement.

This Dutch ruin is majestuous and splendid. This comes from your choice of a very good angle and environement created by framing. Colors and lights which are playing with the architecture are interesting.

Groeten,
John.

Nice classical composition, and beautiful light you've caught for this one. If I had niggle, I think it might be possible to bring out a little more detail in the very shadowy area on the right.

Beautiful afternoon light and long shadows. The grey sky and the very green grass (maybe a wee bit too saturated) go well together, but the attraction are all those shades of red and brown in the facade and the trees. A powerful photo.

Bonjour Lars
La composition est intéressante, les couleurs sont un peu fortes, j'apprécie la lumière latérale qui donne du relief.
Cependant essayez de ne pas centrer le sujet principal.

This is a first rate image, Lars. The lighting is dramatic, the shadows impressive. I particularly like the division of the scene into three layers of colour. Magnificent. Even the clouds are dramatic. Regards.

Hej Lars,
I find this image very attracted and powerful. I like what you've done with the pp, increasing the saturation of colours. The combination of them in the picture works very well, along with the contrasts between shadows and iluminated areas. The grey cloudy sky also works well as a neutral colour in this landscape. Congratulations!

Lars, j'aime la belle lumière qui baigne ce bâtiment et qui lui donne du relief. Le ciel nuageux, l'herbe et les arbres font un beau décor à cette demeure historique.

Hello again Lars:)
Nice image of this amazing castle at Harlem. Good balance and nice comopsition:) But is there something about the woods to the right?
