Photographer's Note

We have just spent a few days away, rented a former forest warden's house, in the middle of the forest miles from anyone.
The core of the Sleenerzand consists of quiet forests that are the domain of dozens of bird species. The southern part is an old drifting sand area, with irregularly shaped juniper berries here and there. In some places suddenly a heather field or an unexpected pool appears between the sand.
On the Ridge of Rolde relics from at least 3000 years ago can be found: a hunebed from the Stone Age, burial mounds from the Bronze Age and a celtic field from the Iron Age. I'll take you on some of our walks in the next few days. We begin here with the view from our rented house.
