Photographer's Note
Many traces of the past can be found in Sleenerzand. Glacier pits can still be seen in the northern part of the forest. In the southern part are burial mounds, hunebed De Papoze Kerk and Celtic Fields. These are remnants of field complexes from the Iron Age.
The Galgenberg is very special. Almost 3,500 years ago, the chief of the Sleenerzand was buried in this burial mound. He got his gold earrings, bronze ax and arrows. A wreath of poles was erected around the burial mound. This was a sign that the dead should be left alone. The wreath was reconstructed in 1996.

Hello Elaine,
It should be interesting to come to a place like this on a walk through the forest. It's the equivalent to a very old and very small pyramid - minus the tourists. Maybe an ideal place for a coffee break.
Regards,
Gert

Hallo Elaine,
Geweldig om tijdens een boswandeling aan zo'n megalithische grafkamer te komen.
Fantastisch hoe in die tijd de kolossale rotsblokken gestapeld werden.
Vele groeten, Paul

Hello Elaine,
Ancient place of worship within the forest, looks different from the usual monuments we see elsewhere. A well presented theme with good settings upon light and shadows.
Good evening,
Ike

Hallo Elaine,
Ik moet altijd nog eens wat hunebedden bezoeken in Drenthe. Een mooi foto van dit exemplaar op de open plek in het bos. Het zonlicht was aangenaam.

Hello Elaine,
Surprisingly, South Korea has the most Neolithic dolmens or burial stone arrangements in the world, but Europe has quite a few as well, as shown here. Tfs!

Hello Elaine,
Details of our early heritage explain where we have come from. I do think more people have become interested in human history and such sites create wonder!
You have composed the photograph well, the path acting as a guide line, with the burial mound becoming the focal image, respectfully surrounded by the natural environment.
My warm regards,
Bev :-)
