The Heilige Maria Ascension Church is a Roman Catholic church in the Zeeland-Flemish town of Aardenburg.

The church was built in 1850-1851 according to a design by P.J. Soffers in early neo-Gothic style. The nave and built-in tower of the original church still remain. The original choir was demolished in 1924 and replaced by a new centralized east part designed by J.H.H. van Groenendael, consisting of a transept, a choir and an eight-sided crossing dome.

Hello John,
The church is partly hidden among ordinary buildings behind a wooden fence and a lot of trees and bushes. The photo is technically good, with fine colours and sharpness, but I actually find the design and construction of the fence the most interesting view. It is made with several different techniques and of different materials in a surprising way.

Hallo John,
In plaats van een houten afsluiting hadden de bewoners beter een haag, bomen of planten laten groeien. Dit doet geen afbreuk aan de kwaliteit van je foto omdat we nog een ruim zicht van de gebouwen boven het hekken krijgen. Zeker de kerk met zijn toren en koepel rijst boven alles uit.
Het lijkt me een grote kerk te zijn voor deze volgens mij kleine gemeente.
Een prachtige lucht in blauw en wit siert het bovenste gedeelte van de foto.

Hallo John,
Een mooi zijaanzicht van deze kerk aan de andere kant van de schuttingen die een mooie voorgrond verzorgen. Opvallend is dat de toren van de kerk kleiner is dan de rechterkant. De blauwe lucht en wolken zijn een mooie achtergrond.

It seems that each of the fg buildings has a different style of fence in the fg. Wonderful warm cold colour contrasts between the blue sky and red brick church. Tfs!

Wonderful neo-gothic church, beautiful construction in a Latin cross, the apse, the octagonal dome and the arm of the transept are clearly differentiated, ideally the different volumes.
Great color that brings out the details of the image.
Very well managed both the brightness and the sharpness of the image.

Nice perspective though the fence. The weather was nice with the photogenic pattern of the clouds in the sky.

Hi John,
A stately-looking church surrounded by houses behind a fence. The dome has an interesting shape different than usually seen in churches. The colors of the church and houses nicely contrast with the sky.
