Let there be light, a photo from More og Romsdal, South

Photographer's Note

Hjørundfjord, Møre og Romsdal, Norway.

This is the spot on Google Maps in less challenging weather. As you can probably tell, the weather was, with typical English diffidence, "changeable". We had sun, rain, sleet, the lot. If you don't like the weather in Norway, wait five minutes. But the conditions meant that there were some interesting photo opportunities for those hardy (stupid?) souls who stayed outside. This was one of those eureka moments. Genesis, or Apocalypse?

Well worth braving the awful weather conditions to capture this beauty. The atmosphere is superb with the sun's rays bursting through the clouds in the gap between the hills. Great photography.

Yes, "Fiat lux" indeed! A very beautiful and very striking image here, reminiscent of old depictions of the Hand of God appearing from the Heavens.

Somehow you have managed to control the light - or at least your exposure - such that we see perfect details throughout the image, from the very brightest areas to the deepest shadows despite the huge contrast in light levels. A fine composition too with exquisite details and sharpness.

And a fascinating note to boot - and it was well worth braving the elements for this lovely shot.

Really lost my heart there in Norway, but Scotland can also answer the criterium "If you don't like the weather in Scotland, wait five minutes." ;)
I can't find any critique for this absolutely stunning image... I just can say that you were there at the right moment, Will, you just clicked, so where are your skills as a photographer then??? :)

Hi Will,fantastic capture of this magical moments,one of the most spectacular but one of the most difficult to take in a good quality as i remember when i seen something like that on the Assisi's hills. Well, what can I say ... foolish to endure such weather or a genius to take advantage of such amazing, photographic opportunities!
I just love it!

Hello Will, indigo coloured clouds above the breakthrough of light, with the rays of light beautifully captured.
The graded silhouettes of the mountains describe the place with the dark grey water in the foreground.
It is that very thin line of light that is so wonderful for me.

Sunrays coming from a small oopening between dark clouds looks so awesome. Coditions were perfect. And place of rays between steep mountain slopes is just right. Contrast is incredible.

A truly amazing photo of the rays of the sun breaking through the low hanging clouds. The dark surroundings with the dark silhouettes of the steep mountains on both sides of the fjord add a great natural frame. Very well captured, what a magical moment to experience.

Magic! You pressed the shutter just at the right moment. The dark clouds frame the streaming sun so well. There is good recession in the cloud-hugged mountains.
