Photographer's Note

The curious walled and painted windows of the building that houses the famous Polish restaurant Pod Aniolami, one of the historical meetings of the bourgeoisie of Krakow. I have not had lunch and I have not entered, but it seems that the ancient interiors are truly magnificent. Obviously I have no idea who are the 3 characters painted, I searched the web without finding answers. In the WS you can see a wide view with carriage.

Le curiose finestre murate e dipinte del palazzo che ospita il celebre ristorante polacco Pod Aniolami, uno dei ritrovi storici della borghesia di Cracovia. Non ci ho pranzato e non sono entrato, ma sembra che gli interni antichi siano davvero magnifici. Ovviamente non ho idea di chi siano i 3 personaggi dipinti,ho cercato sul web senza trovare risposte. Nel WS potete vedere una vista larga con carrozza.

Hello Luciano,
A good close-up photo of these old portraits in the windows and the smaller music playing angles in the red part of the façade. Good light, which helped to bring out the colours well and added some nice shadows.

Le cadrage serré met les oeuvres d'art en évidence. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails des oeuvres d'art. La lumière fait ressortir les couleurs. Bonne soirée.

Ciao caro Luciano,

I've no idea who these people are (or were!) whose images appear above the entrance to this restaurant but I did have a quick look on Google and I see that this does indeed appear to be quite a posh and interesting restaurant at which to eat.

And I think the fact that this place is quite different to other restaurants is quite clear when we look at your main photograph - you have captured that richly embellished facade with its three portraits perfectly in your wonderfully detailed photograph.

And I love your workshop image too in which we see not only the exterior of the restaurant to good effect - but the inclusion of the white carriage with its horses definitely does add a "touch of class".

A fascinating note and two wonderful photographs! Thank you for sharing these!

Bonjour, cher ami Luciano,
Effectivement, l'idée est originale de placer des peintures représentant vraisemblablement des personnages célèbres et cette frise en dessous avec des sculptures en bas-relief attirent les regards et les chalands.
Quant à la promenade en calèche, cela doit être fort agréable pour visiter la ville.

I like the symmetrical framing though I think I would have cropped the bottoms of the windows at the top of the image to focus more on the paintings. The image is well exposed with nicely rendered colours and good sharpness.

I guess you didn't eat here because they didn't offer any Italian food. ;-)
A really good restaurant or a tourist trap? That's hard to tell, but the homepage looks impressive, and these portraits and decorations at the entrance seem quite unique. This close view accentuates the elegant features. Judging from the Google view from the street crowded with tourists, this restaurant could be easily overlooked, so you did well to notice this little gem.

On peut presque lire l'histoire de la ville sur ses murs. Cela doit être des personnages importants et j'aime assez les vieilles perruques de l'époque. Beau rendu des détails.

It is a nice way to make "false" windows and to paint portraits there, maybe they are former owners or funders, a very nice photo

It is a curious way to decorate the windows. I would imagine that these people were important to the citizens of the town, looking over them for eternity! It is also strange that they are not recorded in some way. Nevertheless, they do make a most interesting spectacle and a talking point for visitors.
I agree with your main post, showing detailed, close-ups of the portraits but I'm glad that you added the wider shot so that we can understand where these portraits are situated, with regard to the building and the street.

Covering windows with classic painted portraits is a truly original idea. Certainly hard to forget. Those ornaments with little angels are special too.
Workshop is also excellent. Carriage ride looks even overly romantic.

Three interesting portraits of unknown historical figures. Unfortunately also an example that the Internet does not always provide the desired information easily.

I was in Krakow, but never visited this restaurnt, it sounds expensive haha. looking at the WS photo, it is very plain, you came away with an excellent detailed photo of it. is it HDR, i think so :) cheers

Also the other facades in the street are beautiful. But this house has remarkable paintings.
You didn't eat there but perhaps this is a place where the people go for the historic interior and less for the food ... I don't know. But I don't have good experiences with the so called famous restaurants.
Excellent capture. Yet I like the photo in the WS a little more. I like the wide view.

Brown tones and elements like the lamp and sign, gave the impression of the artistic approach of the guys designed this.

Very interesting indeed, a classic image with rich history, love all the detail and mystery!! but the colour blend makes this a very gentle image. Definitely worth stopping and capturing along with great narrative, Congrats

It seems that this is a magnificent restaurant in the very old, 13-century house. I looked at menu, and I do not wonder you didn't have a lunch there. - only the Polish dishes, like dumplings (pierogi) and żurek, no pizza or spaghetti ;). And as a unique place, quite expensive. interesting facade with the portraits in the windows. I have seen such an idea in many places, it looks always attractive.
The guy in the middle is the Polish king from Saxon dynasty, August II Strong. (see https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_II_Mocny). Who are the other two persons I do not know.

lovely facade, I am quite ashamed to admit that I don't remember this restaurant at all. You have spotted so many interesting places with your fresh eye in Krakow. It will alert me to be more curious next time I get there. Great processing well emphasized the details of the rough surface of the walls.
