Photographer's Note

Firstly I will thank everyone for his/her warm
words by my previous picture.

Sometimes it is better to "throw the bow" Kasia
want to see her parents (so do I) and of course
Isabella must see her grandparents. I sold some
old stuff so we had money for the trip.

Kolobrzeg is 150 km from the border of Germany
and Poland. It's a beach place with a lots of
activities in the summer. Personal I like more
the other seasons, because that is more
photogenic.

We were very surprised to see 20cm (or more)
snow in end March. I went to the beach and....
the beach was incremented and every water
breaker (the wooden poles) was equipped with
ugly yellow signs. Luckily I found a stretch
of beach that didn't lost his old charme..

After a beauty sleep:-) (I had ridden all night)
I went that afternoon to the beach with my stuff.
There was a lots of wind (about 8-9) and it was
-12 Celsius, a "nice" combination, even my tripod
had sometimes problems. Fortunately the beach
was frozen: no blowing sand.

Personally I think this is definitely not my
best picture, or most beautiful one, but it's
a picture that tells more than a thousand words
and you can feel the situation. I like also the
combination: wooden poles, with ice and wild
water.

The next pictures are more colorfull and calmness.

Dit is werkelijk enig om te zien, de palen vol met ijs.
Dit beeld is uniek in zijn soort.
Toch heeft u oog voor perspectief en diepte in deze foto.

Quite a dramatic shot from seaside in wintertime. Yes it is surprising to see such from Poland from late March. Long exposure adds drama to waves and so does the darker sky.

hi robert,
once again you have produced a stunning coastal scene, even if you do not think it is your best. the wooden poles are positioned perfectly to lead the viewer towards the horizon. the combination of frozen snow around the poles, and the white foam of the sea is superb. i love the dark and moody sky. altogether a very dramatic, and 'other-worldly' image.

you must have been frozen taking this amazing shot. I recently went down to the beach in my hometown and my hands were so cold I nearly dropped the camera getting it off the tripod, and it did not look like this frozen beauty. The image itself is stunning and so incredible. Love the icy shapes and the rush of iced water, add to this the atmospheric and moody skies and you have a real winner. Another classic Robert!

This is taken end of march, incredible, I start to shudder right away it looks so cold. That ice makes for a great subject and the brooding sky add a good contrast.

But I have to admit that yours is much more dynamic and powerful and more interesting than mine!
this one is a keeper!
and it for sure has your signature style attached to it.

beautifully composed with the icicle laden poles across the verticals leading nicely to the single patch of blue sky,very dramatic.
This is a stunning photograph,well worth your not inconsiderable efforts.
There is a bright area in the RFG that may be worth toning down a little.

C'est toujours un immense plaisir de découvrir une nouvelle photo de toi dans la galerie. Une photo très spectaculaire et très belle avec ces piquets recouverts de glace et ce contraste entre les tons froids (même glaciaux!) de la mer et ceux plus chauds du ciel. Et toujours ces superbes effets longue pose que tu maîtrises à la perfection....même par grand vent!

Amazing! This is really beautiful, you've given life to a frozen winter scene. The long exposure to create motion in the waves contrasted with the solid ice covered stakes is fantastic. The exposure to balance so much white and have such a dark and moody sky is a true testament to your skills. The touch of orange/red in the clouds is the perfect compliment to the two tone color scheme. Even if it's not one of your favorites, I have no hesitation to say it's one of mine...and you have a lot to choose from! :) This really is a neat image, thanks for sharing this beauty. Hi Robert,
indeed when one lives far from family -a lot of resources, both time and money, go for trips to visit family. Other people can spend it to go around the world instead. I know the feeling, and I got used to it... and every time I try to use this opportunity to visit some new places if possible.
Looking at this photo I would say: it was definitely worth it. I would never judge which of your photos is the best. They are all so impressive, including this one. I like the snow/ice contrasted with the dynamic water in the foreground and warm clouds in the sky.

Looking at this makes me cold. Good I'm looking at it from here in California :) I hear it is still cold like in the winter in Europe. Well here spring is almost over. Love the mood you have capture with the delodramatic clouds. Good depth with the line of frozen ice pole reaching out to the turbulent sea.

very ice the created optical effect from the snows on the wooden poles at the end of teh end of March.
I like the created depth and the perspective as the excellent placement of the poles in the frame.

Long piers and perspective are your speciality together with long exposures, and all your production on that line is quite satisfactorily (included the last one).
Here I like this for me curious presence of ice and the lovely dramatic sky. A very fine image.

Hello Robert - I have been away and missed this dramatic seascape. As you say, perhaps not your best but a very fine capture of nature's tempestuous side! I absolutely love the contrast between the hard-edges ice, well placed on the diagonal, and the boiling softness of the sea. Does the chink of sunlit blue sky promise fairer weather? Maybe not but it adds a pretty col9our contrast to the heavy winter tones. Super! Warm regards Rosemary

I saw your series of this place - the photos are great! Here you had an amazing sky and the exposure was perfect to capture the movement of the water. The ice covering the poles creates a really nice effect.
Maybe it's not your best photo, but it's a very good one and I'm glad you posted it!

By chance, I've just discovered your ice gallery :).
I cannot believe that it was taken this year at the end of march. It looks like in Antarctica. Truly saying I have not been at the Baltic sea for ages. I fled from my cold country and found asylum in sunny Georgia :).
