Photographer's Note

Probably in every country you can find areas which are known as popular tourist hot spots and areas heavily industrialized and therefore avoided by tourists. I remember when I uploaded here a photo titled “Postcard from Middlesbrough”, one of the English TrekEarth members commented that this is the last place he would expect a postcard from. Since it was the capital of English steel and chemical industry, the North East has now the highest unemployment, crime rate, lowest life expectancy etc. The Upper Silesia in Poland would be its cousin. I suppose unemployment is not that high yet because some of the numerous coal mines are still operating but then it translates into more work related diseases etc. What I am trying to say is that the title was supposed to be a bit sarcastic. However, the truth is that wherever you live, you can always find a beauty around you if you have open eyes.

To read more about the monument and the concert hall behind it please refer to my previous photo from Katowice:
