Photographer's Note
Here it its the quite new and comfortable Alpha Train waiting in Porto to departure for Lisboa a saturday morning in January.
Of some reason I was invited to visit the engine driver, and can promise two interesting photos from this visit: Next in this little series will be a montage from the front seat beside the engine driver while we speed on in 200 km/h, while the last photo from the Alpha train will be a shot of the grand Oriente station in Lisboa as we arrive there.
The railways are run by CP (Companhia dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses) which has recently invested in comfortable Alpha Pendula (AP) trains to cover the Lisbon-Porto route. People travel in conforto (first) and turística (second) class on these rápido trains and the journey takes three hours 25 minutes.
Considered one of the best intercity connections in southern Europe, the high-speed Alfa train between Lisbon, Coimbra and Oporto is an extremely efficient way of travelling from the capital to the north of the country, and vice versa. The train leaves Lisbon's Santa Apolónia station and passes through the impressive Oriente station in the east of the city.

Hi Jack,
A beautiful trip story and maybe later beautiful moments with great speed from the cabin, the train together with the yellow line give excellent nice perspective and depth.
Very well seen!

Nice perspective on this train dressed with a French flag. The train colours are bright and shining. The almost desert platform conveys a lonely melancholy. A mood that is common travelling by train on weekend.

A compelling presentation of this train, Jack. A very good perspective effect is accomplished by the shooting angle, and supported by additional elements like the lines on the platform and the cables on top all converging towards the back. Looking forward to the upcoming ones from the "cockpit".

Hi Jack
Very impressive colour & sharpness, with a superb alignment of the train on a diagonal axis. The red & blue create a good warm / cold opposition. Great shot!

I concluded that it is a business trip which enables you to make an illustrated report. It is very interesting. The pendular train is tallied perfectly with its cockpit positioned well on the strong point of the foreground. An interesting depth of the picture and a good perspective. I appreciate also the colors.

Wow Jack, this is the way to capture trains! The cab almost jumping out of the frame and just the right diagonal angle. And this capture has the added bonus of the strong colour scheme of this dashing Alfa Pendular and the straight yellow line along the platform. Love it, very fine job!
