Photographer's Note
I dear TE friends
Another monument from Lisbon - The Free Waters Aqueduct.
In the WS I put another version taken one hour before.
I'm not sure about the best...
Can you enjoy both and tell me something ?
Thanks !
Free Waters Aqueduct
Classified as a National Monument, the Aqueduto das Águas Livres is one of the world's most extensive systems of water supply, reaching a total length of 58 kilometres (36 miles); the name is due to the fact that the water flowed exclusively by the force of gravity, in other words, freely.
In 1571, Francisco de Holanda suggested to king Sebastian the reconstruction of an aqueduct at the site of the former Roman dam of Olissipo, to guarantee the supply of fresh water to the capital, but it was only in the 18th century, during the reign of king John V, that the actual construction began, entirely funded by a tax on meat, wine and olive oil supported by the population of Lisbon.
The works started under the guidance of the architect Manuel da Maia and the sergeant-major Custódio de Vieira, who was responsible for the design of arches spanning the Alcântara valley; it is worth mentioning that the Free Waters Aqueduct boasts the world's tallest stone arch.
The aqueduct, which was concluded in 1834 (although it began to supply water to Lisbon in 1748), displays visible Gothic influences in a period dominated by the Baroque style.
A public walkway along the interior gallery, named Arches Walk, which once offered a wonderful panoramic view to pedestrians, has been closed since 1844 due to the large number of suicides and murders, including those committed by the famous bandit Diogo Alves.
Now, the Water Museum, in charge of the aqueduct, organizes guided visits and tours on different dates and hours, according to the season.

From Wikipedia.

Hello Aires,
You have an excellent scene of this aqueduct in the blue hour. The coloured lights under the structure create an interesting effect against the blue sky. Good sharpness and details and the perspective is excellent to create depth in the image. Beautiful place. Thanks Aires.

Olá Aires,
both of good quality but the blue hour one is more impressing because of the light contrasts. I like the POV offering us the dark ground to the blue sky. The exposure is well done for a lot of details on the large construction.

Hello Aires,
For some time past You show the splendid series of night photoes. These framess, similarly how present are masterly. The splendid construction which remembers still Roman times looks here magnificently. It is both the contribution of the beautiful light as and great skills of the photographer. Superb lights, wonderfully plastic shadows and the unfailingly splendid quality of the photo.

A foto demonstra a beleza do aqueduto.

Sensational blue hour photograph, complemented by a very informative note. Initially, I thought it was a Roman aqueduct, but your note, and the pointed Tudor arches reveal its relative youth — only 250 years old. Finally, your note is like a modern Rosetta stone, explaining the site in several different languages. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the word "Portekizce."
Um abraço,,

I much prefer this blue hour shot to the one in the workshop, Aires. Whenever I have visited Lisbon I have admired this feat of ancient engineering, but have never found the right POV for a good photograph of the Free Waters Aqueduct. Good morning Aires,
Both the pictures are wonderful and each of them has each own beauty! The night shot is more romantic with lovely colors and the long exposure disappeared the vehicles passing through the arches. The photo with light presents better the surroundings. You chose different PoV, I may understand the reason which is the lamp post you had in front one hour before. The construction looks great without regard to hour of capturing!

Hello Aires. I like the glow in different colors of the aqueduct. The sharpness and details are excellent with such a stunning perspective. Very well done and thanks for sharing. Best regards. Jusni

F
