Photographer's Note

This is my second photo of this Nativity scene this year, this time in b&w just for a change.
The Nativity of Monsaraz attracts many visitors every year. It has around 40 real size characters, created by the sculptor Teresa Martins, that are placed all through the village. You can find them in the most amazing places. There are beggers sitting on the stairs of the church, a woman taking water from the well, women and children in the streets... This one was taken in the square of the church. If we follow their direction, we'll find the nativity scene.

Beautiful composition with the figures both in foreground and background. And well lighted too. A real testimony to this event.

Very interesting! And really amazing to have sculptures on the streets representing real persons in action. If the eyes are shown through holes, it could even imitate masked faces?

Something that is very different! And worth a vist.

Muito boa, Anabela. Gosto mais desta pela perspectiva e pela profundidade obtida com a aproximação à mãe e filha. Por outro lado é bom ver um traseunte lá atrás misturado com estas personagens. O p&b também me parece muito bem aqui. Só cortaria um pouco em cima para remover o holofote na esquina.

Vow! They look quite alive, except for the face without eye, mouth...It is very well done! The atmosphere provided by the luminosity and the overcast sky is excellent. Great perspective and sharpness too!
I'll add it to my 'more fav.pic.'theme.

Olá Anabela,
Além do que mostras ser muito curioso e do pitoresco da aldeia, é uma foto excelente, admiravelmente composta, que fica muito bem a P&B. Gosto especialmente do alinhamento dos bonecos com o transeunte do fundo e com a rua e da harmonia gráfica dada pelo equilíbrio entre a porta à esquerda e o pedaço de céu no canto oposto, que ajudam a enquadrar os bonecos da frente.

esta vista nos põe realmente no clima de antigamente, parece santa ana e sta maria caminhando na rua e a prima isabel vindo logo atrás. belo enquadramento e bela idéia da cidade ser enfeitada desta maneira, feliz natal

Very different & I've learnt something new as well. Choice of B&W is IMO apt for this post & in fact the series. The statues have an amazing likeness to actual people. Well composed with the use of the street as a perspective. Well done!
